Jammu and Kashmir Hikes Legislators' Salary, Pension

Jammu, March 28 (IANS) The Jammu and Kashmir assembly Monday passed by a voice vote bills hiking the salary of legislators by 20 percent and their pension by 25 percent.

The bills were moved and passed without much debate.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah later wrote on twitter: "Now that we've voted a pay hike for ourselves in the assembly, I'm waiting for the brickbats."

The state government employees have been asking for the release of their arrears following the implementation of the Sixth Pay Commission's recommendations.

They have been critical of the government move to hike the salary of legislators and ministers while denying the arrears to the employees.
