Udupi: Pejavar Swamiji Temporarily Withdraws Protest – Draws JDS Flak

Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (SP)

Udupi, Mar 29: MP, Nalin Kumar Kateel, Vishwa Hindu Parishat (VHP) regional president, M B Puranik, and some other leaders met Sri Vishweshateertha Swamiji of Pejavar Mutt here on Monday March 28, and persuaded him to end his partial fast undertaken in protest against problems created by the power plant of Udupi Power Corporation Ltd (UPCL) to the people of Nandikoor and other villages in the district. Bowing to their earnest requests, the Swamiji agreed to temporarily end his fast.

It may be recalled that the Swamiji, after hearing the grievances of the people and visiting the villages affected by the said plant, had announced plan to do away with consumption of food, water and any other eatables for the entire day except in the afternoons. In addition to beginning the fast on March 19, he had written to the Chief Minister (CM) about the problems created by UPCL to the people. The CM had written to him, saying that the matter is engaging the attention of the government, and had requested the Swamiji to end his protest fast.

The Swamiji said that he had decided to withdraw his protest in response to requests made by the CM and the other leaders to end the same. He stated that the leaders who met him on Monday had promised to take over the responsibility of addressing all the environmental-related issues of UPCL within the next 15 days. He said he will resume fasting if there is no progress in the issue by April 15.

Anti UPCL Committee president and former MLA, U R Sabhapaty, and honorary advisor, K P Acharya, also requested the Swamihji to end his fast. However, Udupi district JDS president, Deviprasad Shetty, in a press statement, accused the Swamiji of behaving like a BJP spokesperson. He said that the Swamiji’s act of withdrawing his protest has given rise to several doubts in the minds of the people.

“I have high regards for the Swamiji. But he appears to have undertaken the fast with an eye on gaining publicity. It is ironical that he withdrew his protest immediately after a BJP MP, who does not have any idea about the ground realities of the UPCL, and a VHP leader, requested him to end his fast,” he added. He said that the Swamiji has lost his trustworthiness because of this action. He pledged to continue the struggle to close down UPCL till the objective is met.

    Mr Arun CK,

You have given only brighter side of the things but in the process you forgot the dark side of it. When you speak, you must speak the truth. Communual harmony and peaceful society is much more important than Patrao family or UPCL. Had he preached love and peace for the sake of good society (made up of hindus, muslims and christians) and had he not given hateful speeches in samajostavas, I am sure there would not have been incidents of attacks on minorities places of worship and shops of minorities (Kaup, Mangalore and Madikeri). Why didnt he condemn these attacks and why didnt he ask for restraint from those who attacked it??? Why he is talking about threat to hinduism when there is no threat and why he is spreading false information based on RSS ideologies???? Is he not spreading hate in the society??? Even he was an apple of discord amongst the swamis of udupi mutts. I dont want to comment much on the issue as I dont know much about it. If holy and sacred, one will not move to the court and try to stop the paryaya proceedings??? I love my Udupi and I love these mutts in the same way I love masjids and churches of Udupi. It hurts me a lot when some places of worships are attacked or disrupted. As a seer of one mutt he has no right to stop or disrupt the paryaya proceedings. Its Udupinaada habba and I am proud of it. Just for personal interest, the interest of thousands of faithfuls cant be sacrificed. U know better. Why other 7 swamis are not hindus?????

Dear Sahanawaz appriciate your stand genrelly, but I dont second your comments about Pejawar Swamiji. Just give us one incident where swamiji called for voilence. Give us one ocasion where he preached voilence or hatred. He is alligned to BJP, I agree. He is involving more than needed politically, agreed. He takes from ruling BJP govt in favor of Krishna Mutt, agreed. At times pokes his nose(political situations) in things which he should not for his calibre, agreed.

But he never supported BD or Mutalik or V Gandhi type stands. In fact he has participated in serverl inter religious programs to promote peace and communal harmony. Further regarding UPCL he stood for the people of the nearby region not just for hindhu's. Never did he say to relase the harmfull wastes to nearby Muslim or chritian's site or well etc. Again he doesent foolishly asked UPCL to shut down blindly knowign the power situation in the state. All he is asking for is a effective steps to be taken atleast to prvent further more damage to the Environment. Is he wrong in doing so ?.Was his stand in favour of that poor Chritian farmer (sorry i forgot his name) near Jokatte or some thign some months back, when he lost his fertile land to industrialisation ?. Do you see any personnel or religious profit even in this one ?. Infact he is the only one who dared to change the castisem issues prevailing in our society by addressing the dalit issues. He never supported dividing the society, but Uniting it.

Louis D'Souza, Udupi/Kuwait what's your problem if yeddy donates some crores to the temples. Even he had sanctioned some amount to the church in the recent budget which you all commented last time it's a big drama by yeddy and he is doing caste politics. Regarding pejawar swamiji he is one of the respected personality from our commnunity. First and foremost try to give respect to a person then comment.

    Arun CK,

I am against any mulsim mulla preaching violence or issuing fatwas to slit the throat. I am also againt Varun Gandhi calling for chopping the hands of muslims. Anyone who wears a religious robe and preaches violence and hatred is not a human being but an evil person, be it a swami, priest or a mullah. People holding religious positions in the respective communities must use their position to bond love and harmony for co existance as they wield enormous influence on their followers. These clergies must not use their position for instigating violence and hatred in the society. Society is made up of different communities who believe and practice different religions. One should treat others beliefs and practices with respect as he expects the same feelings towards his belief.... This seer has torn the peaceful fabric of our once peaceful society... Whats the need? As Indians, but not as hindus, do we christians and muslims have no legal right to beleive and practice in what we believe. No one has the right to take away our fundamental right to preach and practice our religion. Whoever breaks and divide the society and spreads hatred and violence cant be called as holy or sacred. Every soul is accountable for his deeds and must meet his Creator and give an account of his good or bad deeds... Every holy book preaches this and this swami too knows about it... Start spreading love and harmony for a better tomorrow. Thats the need and not the venom or hatred...Thats it.

Pejavara Swamiji is a good person of high repute. He is doing a good job for the public. If anybody comments negatively, it hurts a lot to me because the comments are baseless and without knowing the facts about Swamiji. If he is aligned to BJP, it does not mean that he is bad.

Dear honourable Swamiji, please keep up your good work. May God bless you.

Peter Pereira, Pune i dont think Nagesh Nayak gives comments on all the issues. His comments will be there only when there is something about BJP. For example you can see a few days back a person from your community had commited fraud, but can you see if there is any comment of Mr Nayak blaming your community or any of your community people?, but people like you give unneccesary comments when there is some news of hindu names in the matter.

Dear Peter, I always Thought Nagesh is one character which is supposed to be ignored and not given much hype or commented like the media does for Mutalik. Like you guys searching for any article to attack hindhu Culture, he will suddenly rise from the ash's as soon as BJP achiev's something or when they win any polls. Its no point in giving much importance to him but one can understand your saddist mentality here by bringing unrelated Nagesh Mamu to this Forum. Dude...dont you have any other good reason to argue about. Are you frustated today that Chaddi Gang made some compromise today and your dream dint come tru so early ?

    Dear Shahnawaz Kukkikatte
With due respect to all relegion...Pejawar swamiji may have requested the people or the Govt to stop Cow Slaughter or Conversion for that sake. He has done from his point of view of safegaurding Hindu culture as he represents it. He did not issue any FATWA and told to slit the throath of Sania Mirza for wearing Skirts. He has not called for any killings or cutting like Varun Gandhi but always took active intrest participating in all religion harmony events. Even though there may be regulatories to watch UPCL the swamiji stood for the concern of the local people which may include hindhus muslims or christians. He is not doing this just because some Hindhu well's in Padubidri area gets contaminated. In doing so if not any help, what harm has he done to the society ? What usefull work have you done to the society to comment on Shri Pejaavar swamiji. At this age he is so much active mingling with people, his fasting is not as simple as your fasting of eating Mutton Biryani & kababs till morning and fasting for the day. He alwys requests people to change the society for good and does not issue FATwas to kill anyone for writting a book and kill the freedom of expression.

    Richard/Shirva, Sharjah.

I agree with you that he is elderly but I certainly dont agree with you that he is sacred. How come one becomes sacred by deviding society and calling for the blood of those who dont believe in what he believes....U are at height of hypocrisy....Dont we have constitutional institutions to address the issues like cow slaughter, UPCL, conversion???/ Why to instigate the fundamental groups who engage in violence at the behest of violent speeches... I would call any one sacred if he struggles to bond the communities, respect all religions, respect others beliefs and practices, maintain the sanctity of others places of worship along with his own places of worship, who always speaks the truth, treat all human beings as equal and who considers that dalit too is created by the same God who created him and Dalit is in no way inferior to him by all means, doesnt exploit others based on their birth... If any one meets this quality unconditionally I shall call him sacred and holy.....

No offense meant to me friends and very good Christiay & muslim friends but with the people Like Sahanawaz, Ismail Perinje, Peter Periera can we expect communal harmoney around? Whenever there is a news related to Hindhu practices, Swamijis's etc these guys are the first ones to jump and spit Venom. All their comments are directly or indirectly aimed at trageting Hindhu culture or Swamiji's not knowing their own background. Even the media gives too much hype for such news and such commentors nowadays. The political hidden agenda is understood , but this will not help buliding harmony bridg's communally with the already strained environment. Now you know why Hindhu's feel insecure about you people and elect Chaddi gang to rule us ??? even though we know they are hell corrupt, atleast we feel secure from people who think they are fighting holy war against the infidels or whatever they call.
