Beltangady, Jul 23: A gang of youth assaulted a man accusing him of sexually assaulting a four-year-old girl. They attacked his relative who tried to intervene. When both were being taken to hospital, one died on the way. This incident took place at Parari Shantinagara of Indabettu village on Friday July 21 evening.

A gang of youth waylaid Narayana Naik (47) in the playground at Shanti Nagar when he was returning after delivering rolled beedies to the shop. They accused him of sexually assaulting a four year old girl and attacked him brutally. His brother-in-law Jarappa Naik (55), who intervened in a bid to prevent Narayana Naik being beaten, was also attacked brutally by the gang.

Both seriously injured Narayana Naik and Jarappa Naik were lying on the ground. Locals informed the matter to their families. Rajashekhar, son of Jarappa arrived near the ground and took both to private hospital at Ujire. However, Jarappa Naik died on the way due to heart attack. Later his mortal remains were shifted to Beltangady government hospital.

Narayana Naik is recuperating at Beltangady government hospital.

It is said that the people who attacked on the duo are local residents Manohar, Chandrakanth Naik, Deepak Rai, Hariprasad, Vijay, Vaishali and others.

A case in this connection is filed at Beltangady police station.
