Daijiworld Media Network – Kaup (JD/MS)

Kaup, Jul 23: In one more addition to the long list of accidents that are occurring on national highway connecting Udupi with Mangaluru, a woman car driver, navigating a pothole, lost control and crashed into an electricity pole here, early morning on Saturday July 23.

The electricity pole broke into two pieces due to the impact of the collision. The woman driver of the car, who was going to Manipal for work, luckily escaped unhurt. The car climbed onto the divider after the mishap.

Traffic police reached the spot and investigated. The issue of potholes was recently discussed in the meeting with Navyug company by district in-charge minister Angara. But the repairing of potholes is not yet done.

Why the toll is being collected when the roads have so many pot holes? Where is the media? Why Surathkal toll gate is still functioning and looting our money? The road next to toll gate is pathetic.. May be they are waiting for some vehicle to hit the toll booth itself? Politicians never talk about this now.. Nithin Gadkari tweeted saying tolls within 60 Kms range will be removed but Surathkal toll still there.. when we have some justice?

We are fined if our vehicles are found to be not road worthy. Why is our legal system not holding the ministry responsible and compensate for the damage they do for the vehicles? In America if a pothole is not repaired on time the department is fined. Our courts are helpless and voiceless, no justice for the tax payers.

Humble suggestion to RTO add special driving test how to manoeuvre the vehicle in pot holes. We cant change roads let us be skillful to deal with road conditions.

Fine toll managing company or people should close down toll plazas like in maharashtra, where non maintained roads banned collecting tolls from vehicles.

Quality of public works have nose dived in recent years... Even the express highway recently inaugurated by Mr. Modi has crumbled with a week's rain... I wonder why civil engineering is loosing standards in our public works???... Quality construction is only limited within compound walls of contractors' homes!!!...

One thing is sure politicians do not want to exert pressure on Navayug who is minting money day and night through toll. If they can not provide a motorable road after such extortion....its a day light robbery! Isn't there anyone to question this substandard job Mangalore to Kundapur? Every MLA / MP should be taken to task...do not allow them to talk about cow....let them talk about people and basic amenities after squeezing road tax, life tax and toll! A system need to be developed in order to prevent commission percentage! Repair and patch work is just an eye wash! Most countries they cut the potholes by grinder make it a strait line for the filling so that repair is permanent! We have educated engineers from reputed coastal colleges....fit for wonderful jobs abroad.... here corruption does not allow them good practice of specification and quality job! What about street lights? Bi-lanes? Storm water drain? Why it is not being done before collecting toll?? Bottom line is, corruption preventing us from good roads balance goes to individual pockets!
