Udupi: Kelaparkala national highway 169A - Nightmare for commuters

Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (MS/HB)

Udupi, Jul 23: The very thought of driving on Kelaparkala NH 169A, gives goose bumps to the vehicle drivers. Even if a slight loss of concentration will result in grave danger.

The road is being constructed in an unscientific manner under change of work plan. Public curses the officials for the sloppy work. Locals express concern on the negligence of NHAI.

Most of the heavy vehicles cannot reach the upward slope due to the unscientific slope of the road. Many vehicles have toppled here. During weekdays, the danger is more as the buses carry students and children beyond capacity.

Recently, a huge container toppled at Kelaparkala. But the administration and NHAI do not seem to be bothered.

MLA Raghupati Bhat promised to put concrete to the road within two days. The incessant rains of three weeks have made the situation pathetic. Traffic jams are a daily affair on this stretch.

In the Kelaparkala national highway, which should have been straight, a sudden bend appears. If the driver is not alert there is every chance of him or her losing control of the vehicle. Night time driving is extremely risky as there are no street lights and road signs. The barricades kept in the bend by the police are the only protection to the commuters.

Though a traffic police officer is posted after the recent container accident, he gets frustrated in clearing the traffic. The concerned department should respond immediately. The locals have warned of fierce protest if a permanent and amicable solution is not provided for this problem.

NHAIs competence to build long lasting and safe roads are under question seeing the state of roads throughout the country! A direct result of corruption wherein third rate contractors are awarded contracts who in turn carry out unscientific and sloppy jobs using questionable quality material and workmen!!

The locals ND our children .. Who will take the responsibility of this kind of irresponsible work and people who are responsible for this ND are not bothered of doing anything. Every year this is problem. People and students are stuck in road blocks for one or more hrs, but there is no concern from the so called Leaders.

My first question is who gave this road free for vehicles?Self for passengers to walk itself is dangerous. My Goodness .looks like jungle roads lead to nowhere.Should have a good life Inserence.Bring PM on this road or send him pictures of wonderful roads.Atleast during British times or Congress time we had better roads.Pouring crores of Rupees in the mud.
