Beltangady, Jul 24: An elderly woman was murdered in broad daylight at Kerekodi of Belalu village of the taluk by close relative of the woman. The killer took cash and golden ornaments in the house but was arrested quickly by the police. This incident occurred on Saturday July 23.
The deceased is identified as Akku Gowda (85). She was murdered by the relative of her daughter-in-law, resident of Kadirudyavara village.

Akku was living with her son and daughter-in-law. Both son and daughter-in-law had gone to work. Akku’s granddaughter arrived from school and called out her grandmother. But she was not at home. The girl searched for her grandmother and found her lying behind the cowshed of their house. She immediately informed the matter to her parents.
The parents of the girl, son and daughter in law of deceased woman, rushed back to house and saw Akku lying dead with her earrings missing along with cash in the house.
Dharmasthala police SI Krishnakant Patil and team immediately swung into action and arrested the accused. It is suspected that Akku must have died when the accused assaulted her.
A case of murder and dacoity is filed against the accused in Dharmasthala police station.
