Udupi, Jul 26: Deputy commissioner (DC) M Kurma Rao said that the survey work of assessing loss due to rain in the district is going on. Right now the loss is estimated to be Rs 166 crore and special grant request is sent to the government.
Speaking at the press conference, Rao further said, “The damage that has occurred to agricultural and horticultural crops is collected every now and then and updated online. So far in the panchayat raj department limits, 907.85 km of road, one bridge, 150 schools of public education department, 70 anganwadis of women and children welfare department, 28.46 km road of PWD, port and internal transport department, 44.17 km of district road, 20 bridges, one building, 152.50 km road of district city development authority, 1283 electricity poles of Mescom, 20 transformers and 35.90 kmg of electricity supply
cables are damaged. On the whole the loss is estimated at Rs 166.29 crore.
“We need Rs 76 crore for urgent relief work. However, fundamental infrastructure like bridge and road repairs are being done with the grant that is available from time to time. The damage survey is done continuously.
“Complaint is lodged with the chief secretary to the state government with respect to the potholes on national highway. Direction is also given to fill the potholes and repair the road on emergency basis,” he said.
