Greece to Ban Animals in Circuses

Athens, March 31 (IANS/RIA Novosti): Greece is to ban circuses from using animals.

The government has suggested an amendment in the law on animal rights that will increase the criminal liability for torturing animals, a media report said. Violators will be jailed.

The government has debated the bill since 2009 after a circus trainer was shown on television beating an elephant with a stick.
