Congressmen Stage Hunger Strike Against Tamil Nadu Party Chief


Chennai, March 31 (IANS): With just 13 days to go for the Tamil Nadu assembly polls and when all other parties are campaigning actively for their candidates, the affairs within the Congress are far from happy. Party cadres observed a one-day token fast here Thursday demanding the removal of state Congress chief K.V. Thangkabalu.

Led by senior leader S.M. Idayathullah more than 200 party workers, including several women, assembled at the party headquarters here demanded Thangkabalu's immediate sacking for the confusion pertaining to the announcement of Congress candidates.

The protesters charged Thangkabalu of arbitrarily selecting and changing the party's candidates.

Meanwhile, Thangkabalu has warned the protesters of action for going on a fast, terming it an anti-party activity.

The Congress is contesting in 63 seats in the April 13 poll to the 234-member assembly.
