Bengaluru, Jul 27: The government of Karnataka has passed an order raising the age limit for school admission to first student as of June 1 to 6 years.
Under the RTE Act 2009 and Compulsory Education Rules 2012, the minimum age for admission to the first standard has been fixed.
During the academic year 2016-17 under the RTE Act 2009 Section 12(1)(C), the minimum age for admission to LKG had been fixed between 3 years 10 months to 4 years 10 months and for the first standard it was fixed between 5 years 10 months to 6 years 10 months.

In 2018, the government relaxed the age limit for admission to first standard and fixed it between 5 years 5 months and 7 years.
The current academic year has begun and all the schools have completed their admission process and therefore the new rules will be effective from this year, according to Dr R Vishal, Commissioner of School Education and Literacy department.
