M'lore: History Repeats? BPO Women in City Assaulted in Midst of Celebrations

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore

Mangalore, Apr 1: This sounds like a rude April Fool joke, but it isn't. The city has been once again hit by an incident of assault on women, this time in the midst of celebrations.

Even as the city was celebrating India's win over Pakistan on the night of Wednesday March 31, a group of men, allegedly inebriated, confronted a couple of women who were on their way to their night shifts at an MNC. The women were accompanied by a security guard and their cab driver, but that did not stop the group from misbehaving with the ladies.

The incident took place near the Mahaveer circle in Pumpwell, where a big crowd had gathered to celebrate, thus affecting traffic. As the cab slowed down, the group is said to have noticed the women.

According to reports, the drunken men tried to assert their 'manliness' by rudely asking the women where they were going at that hour of the night. When they were met by a stubborn silence, one of the men punched one of the women, hurting her badly enough to cause nosebleed.

The security guard who tried to intervene too was assaulted, according to reports. The driver then decided that enough was enough and sped away to safety, with the ladies and the guard in the car.

The women have not registered a complaint yet.

Whenever there are celebrations drunken goondas will be there and it was the duty of administration to provide police to oversee.

Eventhough I am against the activities Bajarangadal, in this case we can not blame any organisation and it must be the act of few drunken goondas.

It is wrong to blame groups on the basis of simply ones assumption.Incident should be investigated and culprits should be brought to books. It is not a big thing for police.
However, the incident is indicative of dangerous trends ahead for common people especially for women folks after dusk in Mangalore unless district administration take the issue seriously and initiate measures to curb it.Lest it will send negetive signals to investors for Mangalore and things may roll back as rightly said by Praveen Mangalore.

This is not a new thing. They are the same people who attacked the churches and minority institutions. These cowards are blessed and paid by the shameless idiots who have no moral values and ethics. They should not think that by this way they can put their hidden agenda in action. If that is so they are in fools paradise. Just look at what is happening to Libiya and other countries in the world.

Police or general public should name and shame these culprits. Publish their photgraphs, names and the crimes done by them on TVs, News papers and stick pamphlets of these people every corner of the city, so general public can reconise them and beware of them.

    When lawlessness and disorderly
    conducts are daily displayed by
    the political leaders at the
    assembly, also when the politicians
    exhort the public to create
    terror and destruction then the
rowdies are not the least worried about the rule of law.

    If the criminals have political
    influence or economic strength,
they can escape from the rule of
    law, through the back door.

It is very sad to read such news
    repeatedly. Who can apprehend the
culprits and put them in jail for
a few years to show the public
that "if you assault somebody, this
    is the end result".

It is surely bd or ram sena because they only do moral policing. The road does not belong to these goondas not their private property who has given right to these goondas who themselves are drinking and enjoying on the streets and setting wrong example on other youth why govt. not putting them in jail the girls are going to work to help their families not like poonam pandey who is giving challenge to strip when poonam opened her mouth to do such a thing where was this moral police why they not gone and slapped her and her parents who are encouraging her. I think this is just beginning slowly we will see more of this taliban act all selfrespecting Indian woman be careful just don't take the beating give them back. Law is on woman's side they will be jailed for doing harm to woman

I appreciate your concern Sooraj. But no point in filing a complaint, arresting and then are out on bail and the case is dismissed due to lack or insufficient evidence after 8-10 years. Such things not only happen under BJP rule, but under congress rule too.

I remember a dialogue in the movie 'Rang De Basanti' where Amir Khan says 'There are only two ways to live life: Tolerate things the way they are... Or, take responsibility to change them." But the point is you try to change the system and the system changes you.

With corruption & crime he innocent public suffers. You people and me cribbing here on this site will not bring a change for which I am sad. God alone save India.

Mangalore has become a place for terrorist...Terrorist not from pakistan but originated due to religious blind believes, religionalism and ignorance and politics in the government departments...Not all but a few have spoiled the name of religion... Place like mangalore where there are MNC are going to be placed in the future will be working in shifts and women will be moving in night times for work, in future the police dept should take care of such incidents and punish the culprit. This is the voice of public...

The Bloody culprits must punish with out any mercy. This is the time where all female either to carry a gun or some sort of self-protection weapons with them. No one given authority to question others what time to travel and what to do at what time? It is really stupid by some groups taking constitutional rights in their hand and misbehaving with females. Hope our DC and Police Commissioner will take very strict action with all the people and groups who always doing such barbaric act.
