Team India Should Tour Country: Mukul Sangma

Shillong, Apr 3 (IANS): Congratulating Team India for winning the cricket World Cup, Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma Sunday said captain M.S. Dhoni and his men should tour the country to promote the game and scout for talent.

"As a nation, we are all proud about the performance of the Indian team and I will write to the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) suggesting to them that the team should take a victory tour across the country, including the northeastern states," Sangma told IANS.

"We are all proud of them," Sangma said on his return from the national capital.

Echoing the chief minister, the Meghalaya Cricket Association (MCA) has written to the BCCI secretary N. Srinivasan and vice president (East Zone) Arindam Ganguly urging that the victorious team should take a victory tour across the country.

"They should take a victory tour to thank the people for their whole-hearted support," said MCA Secretary Naba Bhattacharjee.

Meanwhile, the celebrations which began Saturday night after Indian victory over Sri Lanka in Mumbai continued in this mountainous state a day later.

People took out victory processions with the Indian national flag, while supporters honked car horns before gathering in downtown Shillong after the match.
