Udupi, Aug 1: Shri Madhwa Vadiraja Institute of Technology and Management, Udupi has been identified under the ‘SUPER-30’ engineering College and as one among the 16 private engineering colleges for this initiative in the state.
This is a great opportunity to meet the expectations of its stakeholders through innovation, research and funded projects. Not only that, it has increased the college’s responsibility of providing the best quality education. By 2028, the college hopes to meet its dream of becoming an autonomous institution with a deemed university status, said Ratnakumar, secretary of the institution on Monday, August 1.
He was speaking to media persons at a press meet held at the college campus. He said, ‘The management of the institute is very happy for including the institute under SUPER-30 and we express our gratitude to the authorities for selecting our college under SUPER 30. The institute is confident of achieving the top position among top 30 colleges in the next five years, if there is any scope for fisting the SUPER-30 colleges based on its performance.”
About 14 Government and 16 private engineering colleges have been identified under SUPER-30 initiative with the objective of enhancing technical skills of students and teaching skills of faculty members. Also, there is enough thrust for research, innovative projects and ideas, entrepreneurship and incubation in the next five years. This initiative is also called as RETE (Regional Ecosystem for Technical Excellence).
The vice-chancellor of Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belagavi and his team has framed the entire guidelines of this initiative.
Within a short time of 12 years, the institution has achieved many milestones such as excellent academic performance leading to good placements and projects with societal impact promotion to research, accreditation by NBA, NAAC and funded projects.
The chairman of Vision group of start-ups Prashanth and his team members screened the private engineering colleges and selected SMVITM from Udupi district as one among the 16 private engineering colleges for this initiative based on the pre-defined criteria and a three-layered structure of incubate, accelerate and Super 30.
The five areas of focus under the RETE scheme are academic upgradation, research upgradation, industry connect, placements and quality improvement. The institutes are required to take necessary steps to achieve the target set under each areas through many programs in association with the University and Industry.
The total expenditures involved to be shared in equal proportion by the institute, University and the Industry.
The progress of the initiative shall be monitored by a high level committee headed by the Higher Education Minister with members from the industry and the University. The institute shall appoint a nodal officer for initiating various activities under the guidance of the Principal and his management.
The institute shall have a project monitoring committee and appoint a nodal officer. The Principal and the nodal officer shall present the progress of the initiative to the monitoring committee at regular intervals of time.
The University is expected to support financially for the innovative projects, faculty development programs, skill development programs and student mentoring. The supporting industry will help the institute for industry connects internship, infrastructure augmentation and placement. University will support and guide the institute for industry connect.
Accordingly, the governing board of the institute shall contain the nominee from the industry appointed/nominated by the University as members.
Institutions are monitored based on achieving targets such as National Institute Ranking Framework (NIRF ranking), 100% placements, number of Entrepreneurs developed through the institute, accreditation by NBA to the programs of the institutes and many other targets.
Radhakrishna Aithal, Governing Council member said, ‘We have been associated with more than 13 esteemed companies like Infosys, Wipro, manufacturing industries, and so on. It is a matter of pride. I would like to thank the Karnataka government for recognising our institution. There is a challenge to stand best out of 3o colleges. We will put all effort into achieving success.”
