Kalika Sambrama Stresses on Teaching Konkani in Schools

Mangalore, Apr 6: Under the joint auspices of Karnataka Konkani Sahithya Academy, Konkani Prachara Sanchalana and Mandd Sobhann, ‘Konkani Kalika Sambrama Matthu Vishleshane’ programme was held at Kalangann here on Wednesday April 6.
 
Presiding over the programme, Narayan Kharvi, president of the Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy said that the state government has given an opportunity for learning Konkani at schools and even at Prathibha Karanji. Now it is time for recruitment of Konkani teachers, he said.

He appealed to the DDPI representative Mohamed Hussein that scope should be given in school time-table for Konkani language learning. He said that one period should be reserved exclusively for Konkani language.
 
Mangalore Diocese Vicar Denis Moras Prabhu who was the chief guest said that love towards our mother tongue leads us to work towards developing that language. He also said that teachers' role is of utmost important in retaining Konkani language.
 
Sr Ancy Crasta, of Nithyadhar English Medium School, Thokkottu was honored with best Konkani teacher award on the occasion.
 
An allowance for Konkani teachers sponsored by Ronald Colaco was distributed on the occasion. Konkani Prachara Sanchalana president Roy Castelino delivered introductory address. Mandd Sobhann gurkar Eric Ozario, president Louis Pinto, Prachara Sanchalana secretary Edward Nazreth were present.
 
Victor Mathias delivered the vote of thanks. Titus Noronha compered the programme.
