Mangalore, Apr 6: Youth Social Service Charitable Trust, a registered body run by Lancelot Pinto, corporator and opposition leader in the Mangalore City Corporation, is in the midst of a controversy over its registration.

On the evening of Wednesday April 6, some people alleged to be members of Bajrang Dal stopped the inmates of the trust, children belonging to poor families, from going home on school vacation, on the allegation that the Trust has been running without licence.

The ashram which is at Bejai here has been running for the past seven years and has benefitted almost 30 girls. It has been providing free education to poor girl students for the past many years and looks after their accommodation, clothing and food, free of cost. It houses both Christians and Hindus, and at present there are 18 students studying from 4th standard till 2nd PUC and a student is doing her diploma course. Among them 10 are Christians and 8 Hindus.

As per Lancelot Pinto, Christians go to church while Hindus pray at the ashram, and within the ashram too, separate arrangements have been made for spiritual requirements of each community.

However, though the trust is a registered body, it is not registered under women and child welfare department.

On April 6, arrangements were made to send 8 students to their native place, as they have school holidays. But most of the parents are poor and cannot afford to spend money on transport, so it was decided to send their children with the parent of a child.

When the person was booking tickets for the bus, they were not allowed to go by persons alleged to be Bajrang members, as per Lancelot Pinto. Gangadhar of child welfare department and Asha Nayak of child welfare committee arrived at the spot. Later, deputy director of women and child welfare department, Shakuntala, Asha Nayak and other members visited the ashram at Bejai along with the complainants.

Lancelot Pinto was present. Capt Ganesh Karnik, deputy chairman, NRI forum also visited. They carried out an inspection of the ashram.

The children have now been kept at Prajna Counselling Centre and at government hostel near Kuttar, Padavu. Parents have been called to identify their children and take them home.

A complaint has been lodged for running the ashram without licence and an enquiry is being carried out by Urwa police.

Thank you BD for opening the eye of the Dumb Mangalorean commitee!! Few days ago when an Orphanage in Mulki was attacked , Christians commented so badly about the organization stating that they belong to some other sect etc etc etc ..

Now when a Christian organization is attacked , then we realize and comment that BD is not a religious party !! They are a group of Anti social uneducated people who like to disturb the peace of Mangalore!!
Hindus ,Muslims and other religion peole ,remember you also would not be spared and will be targetted !!

I agree with BD's 1 comment that " We need to guard our culture ".!!! Yes Mangaloreans , Anti social elements , drunkards and goons were never a part of our Indian culture !!!

So please wake up Mangaloreans and also wake up and shake up our DC , DIG , DSP and the Law makers ~!~!

    Dear Friends,
If any person as an indivdual or through an Organisaiton is doing good work to the society irrespective of Caste, Creed & Religion he is doing the work of God. God is using him an instrument to serve the poorest of the poor people(orphans). Religlion comes only last. We are all children of God. For jealousy there is no remedy. I know Mr.Lancelot Pinto & I have also visited his ashram number of times. There may be lapses on his part. But these lapses can condoned or can be rectified by the Competent Authority. This looks like polictically motivated move.

    Indeed a sad affair.

Charity on humanitarian ground is christian value but that does not mean the necessary licence is not mandatory. Several notifications and letters were issued to all institutions and all specially the christains were fast asleep. When I myself was in CWC committee I had appealed in 2 official letters to the BISHOP of mangalore to register all the institutions and his deaf ears paid today.

Secondly no body has power to raid especially the CWC and Women & Child Department officials. A tresspass case need to be filed immediately.

Thirdly CWC has suo-motu authority but that is when the committee is in sitting not as ASHA an individual.

I request and appeal to all like minded to come on single platform and fight the vices.  Any needing any help to register any child care centre under JJ act can take my help any time free of cost.

Dear Allwyn from Canada, I agree with you, with my heart and soul.
You are suggesting that to stop the charity work. I have already done so since 2 years, the day when these goondas stormed the premises of St.Ligory School in Neermarga, Mangalore. They used a silly reason of Kannada Bible distribution inside school property. This is good lesson for Catholics because we lost control of charity. Our priests and nuns should face these more and more to learn enough is enough of kindness.
How many schools are they building and for who they are building these schools with our charity. Time to stop health care too.

There are Children of these Bajarangies, whose Children are studying in the schools where catholics are supporting their education. This does not bother these Bajrangies to use our money to educate their children. Today many Hindu children are using few computers donated by me,reading library books given by my family, eating meals cooked by the employees provide by me, in the kitchen built by me ,using many toilets built by me. I did not do this looking at religion but the poverty of these little souls.

I am very happy to see these things because these children are innocent. Now they will be taking the blunt because of their stupid parents. Now I have stopped completly. Goodbye to Charity.

This is one example of the mindset of Bajarang Dal. They never do any thing good to the society and on the contrary if somebody is doing good service to the poor people then they do all these tamasha. Is license is important when social activity is done sincerely?

For Bajrang dal good or bad is decided by seeing through the communal prism and unfortunately there are supporters for such actions of this communal unit.

    Thu, Apr 07 2011

    Dear Mr Eric Coelho,
If there is a procedural lapse in not getting a license it can be rectified by issuing a notice and by legal action. There is no need for so many authorities and the bajrangi's to come and frighten the children which will have severe psychological impact on them. We have visited the ashram several times and found the children to be happy. From a plot donated by a kind person Lancy has worked hard to build the Ashram and taken trouble to look after the children regardless of religion with the help of like minded people who have chipped in with donations.

I am sure this is a political ploy by BJP to discredit Lancy who has an impeccable reputation and served Bejai as a good corporator for a number of years.

I request Mr Coelho, if he has time, to go and join with Anna Hazare in the ongoing revolution to weed out corruption in our nation, whether it is congress or BJP govt. Leave good social workers like Lancy alone.

Dear Lancy you have our full support. Keep up the good work. May God Bless you with good health and strong will to fight your detractors.

Dear Lancy, we are with u. I know u how much u have struggled to establish the ashram "ASHRAYA".
This is nothing but political conspiracy to malign u. You are very popular figure in bejai,, kapikad, kuntikad, mundan and all the vicinity & very diligently working in your constituency. That is why u have been voted as Corporator 5 times. We all know the truth.
Many times u had came and approached us to support for these unprivileged children in kind and I had visited this ASHRAM few times & personally impressed the way this ASHRAM is taking care of children.
One room for Hindu for the prayers and one room for Christians for the prayer. Also an elderly lady to take care of the children requirements. Not surprised to note the destructive elements who has only one agenda to create confusion, panic and meet their masters political hidden agenda. But you will be victorious as we all know you are sincere, dedicated and had gone through in your life, hardship. So u understand these less privileged children needs and the urge to serve few in your own way the mankind and humanity.
Always truth prevail over lie and truth wins. The liars will end with their own trap and time will be the witness.

God Bless him.But he should respect the rules and regulations. And being a corporator he should not have violated the rules and ignored the procedures.

Very sad incident and shock to see all these officials were silent for the past 07 years. Now they woke up from the hybernation. What a dirty minded people we have in society.
First and foremost I would like to ask Bajrang dal president " does Bajrang dal has got any legal permission from the Govt to interefere in the affairs of others who are doing good to the society by building up rational and healthy society". Who is Bajarang dal. If they are very much interested is stablizing peace and harmony then let them join in the army.
Secondly, if Bajrang dal is much interested in bringing up such children why not bajaran dal proceed with it by looking after them. They cannot coz they are born racist. Even this incident floated up because of Racism by Bajarang dal who are not Good Hindus. The voice of the God dead in their heart.
Lancelot, you are doing a fine job of Loving God. Doing good job like a Good samaritan will be appreicated by all good people around you and above all from GOD. Keep up the good work rolling. We are with you.

Every act in this world is done for an incentive, we should what the real incentive was before taking sides
    1. The Bajrang Dal's incentive can be to fight corrupt practices . Knowing the history of the organisation I doubt it very much.
    2. The incentive of BD is for creating communal disharmony. That will be on probale reason knowing the history of the organisation.
    3. Pinto registering the chariatable organisation may want to avoid taxation. I don't know not knowing Pinto's history.
    4. Pinto might be wanting to do good, then thats wonderful.
If this organisation has benifited the orphan children should be the main issue. Going by the media report I think that objective is being acheived so all thats needed to do is regularise the license and then the authorities check the funding scheme of the organisation and Pinto.Precisely in that order. Problem solved.

Since long time Christian community running so many Institution in and around Mangalore and majority of the beneficiaries of these institutions are non Catholics.I do agree that this charitable trust is not registered under the legal formalities but this person is not thought that he has to help only poor catholic children and in the same time also his helping hand never seen one community or religion. Instead of doing such drama you should have instructed Lancelot Pinto through proper channel to do the necessary things. If so called Bajrang Dal activist are taking law into their hands then u r not a true follower of Lord Bajrang Bali who he is considered to be the god of power and strength. Because of BJP government in Karnataka is having both power and strength, they will protect you even if u do mistakes repeatedly. I am very sorry to see this, Now in Karnataka minority communities are difficult time facing, their each and every act look into communal eyes. In the city many Christians running School /Colleges and Hospitals may also target by some other reason, they may object Hindu children studying minorities institutions.

This is nothing else, Hindu fanatic leaders deliberately dividing Hindu, Muslim & Christians for their vote bank. They frequently using three four wordings like forceful Conversion, Love Jihad, Islamic Terrorist, this labels stick on minorities to make insult and mediocrity

Why is there this big presence of policemen in uniform. How daunting and scaring this can be in the minds of innocent children, who are about to go on their well earned holidays to be with their parents. Compound this by throwing these scared children into some government hostel. Do we ever think of sensibilities? Shame on us. The policemen must be more aware of such things and avoid going in as a platoon in uniform. Coming to service of the people, strangely I have a feeling that what some people here comment MAY be correct.... let us serve our own communities, leaving no chance for the Bajrangs and the other idiotic groups to rake up issues. Sad..but if the state cannot look after your security, then it is time you looked after yourself.

The important pictures and videos are missing from this episode. The children were screaming and crying when the Bajarand dal people forced the children get into the van arranged by so called child welfare committee.Mr.Lancelot Pinto was kept under custody until late night without producing in the court. The police had no evidence to arrest Mr. Lancelot Pinto .He he has the affidavits and authorizations signed by each parents to keep the children with his hostel. There is no such law exist to register a trust with child welfare department when the parents of minor child sign an authorization affidavit signed to keep the children with the trust. The whole hostel turned into a house of funeral when the bajarang dal people and the police forced and dragged Mr. Lancelot Pinto the police Jeep. The innocent children cried as if the head of the family is dead. The police did not release Lancelot pinto until late night and did not file a charge sheet at all. So now you people of Mangalore imagine what kind of governance you are given by the present state government. The Law by the children and welfare department has just been enforced and has six months period to submit the related documents to register under the Child welfare department.

The issue is more political than registeration bla bla.....Being coroporator and oppn party leader in M.Coroporation,Mr L.Pinto had more responsibility in making all papers set right of his ASHRAM.Bajarangis are always looking for loopholes to trap and discredit the other community's institution or related activities.Under given ceircumstances in Karnataka BD has more say on isuues like this than govt officials.Govt officials dances @ the tune of BD and RSS is evident from day one BJP govt in Karanataka.

Please dont blame bajrangdal or its sub-ordinates. First of all trust should meet all basic necessities. In case of any emergency situation all these meassures will be accounted. If the trust is genuine and registered under proper meassures, donors will be exempted from income tax under suitable section of income tax acT . And finally my simple request to all donors " THINK BEFORE YOU DONATE FOR SOME GENUINE CAUSE". Your donation should go right path so that person in need should be benefited. ...... J. P. These people want majority to remain illiterate-so that their Godfathers! rule which had come to an end with education for all provided by Christian institutions all these years.
It reminds me of Mother Theresa's charity works which had also ran into all these problems from gaurdians of society!
I request all my ignorant social service providers to follow all the rules & regualations framed by the state as well as centre- to prevent all these dramas in future-though u have to grease their palms to get all the clearences. Otherwise these dramas will unfold everyday.

This is a pure politically motivated. Mr. Lancelot Pinto is in a party opposed by the ruling party and he is in news these days because he opposed property tax hike in Mangalore.
We have to realize that a small group of people are taking us for a ride. The so called Bhajarang Dal is not supported by majority of Hindus and most of the Hindu brethren know what conversion is and who is doing that. They clearly know that the Christian organizations are doing real social service and not for the sake of increasing their number. Let us not stop our good work, our mission of helping the poor and needy irrespective of cast and creed. Let us not become emotional that we are targeted. It is a small miniscule of the Hindu brethren who are not able to tolerate the good works done by others. They attacked girls in pubs, they beat when they see young couple traveling in public transport or sitting in restaurants. Let good minded Hindus raise their voice against these...

Best bet is stop serving. Christians should only serve their own people so no blames on conversion. Today itself I will donate my funds to only Christians activity no more for others. My 10% income was shared for the unfortuate kids in India most of them were Hindus. I will never ever help any one other than Christians. No blame game of Conversion. When I see these reports of blaming only conversion I get so angry specially these criminal goondas of peace haters of the soeciety. No law/orders and our police men are sleeping and supporting these people to perform more drama in the name of conversion. Sick to see these act. I hate Mangalore now.

Just closing down of the Charitable trust is not only the main issue, it is also important that we check the Accounts of the said trust. We need to bring in the Income tax and the E.D. into picture to check the source of local and foreign funds and how it has been used. If the charitable organisation was not registered then whatever money received by the said trust is fully liable to Income Tax as the said trus, I am sure is not registered even with the Income Tax department under Sec. 80G so that donors can avail INcome tax deduction. Time of make a thorough and deep investigation in this Trust. A Silly excuse by the founder by saying "I did a mistake by not registering the trust" cannot be taken for granted. Time for thorough investigation.

I think its high time for all Christian (Roman Catholic) Charitable institutions to rethink in the definition of Social service, the contribution of the catholic community to Mangalore or the Country in large even though significant in the past & present these right winged parties do view them in a negative way, the probable reason may be the (New Life activities). Its time we need to get concerned of only providing service to our own community people at least there shall be no opportunity for the right wing to blame the catholic community by doing this our own community shall be benefited. In one way its obvious that it all looks like a political foul play to target the Roam Catholic community.God save this country, by doing this they are dividing the social fabric of mangalore....
