Yeddy Backtracks: Only Cash, No Plots for World Cup Winners

Bangalore, Apr 7 (IANS): Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa has dropped his plan to give 4,000 square feet residential plots to the cricket World Cup winning Indian team members and said each player will get Rs.25 lakh in cash instead.

"Instead the team members will be paid Rs.25 lakh each," Yeddyurappa told reporters here on the margins of a function to inaugurate a museum devoted to Kempe Gowda, founder of Bangalore.

Soon after Mahendra Singh Dhoni-led team won the World Cup in Mumbai April 2, Yeddyurappa announced residential plots in Bangalore for each player for bringing the cup to India after a gap of 28 years.

His announcement generated controversy as many sportspersons from Karnataka who were similarly promised plots are yet to get these even after several years.

Yeddyurappa did not refer to the controversy but said rules governing site allotment by the Bangalore Development Authority were coming in the way of giving the plots to the cricketers.

"We have to amend the rules which will take some time. Hence, we have decided to give cash award at a grand function to be organised in Bangalore in consultation with the team," Yeddyurappa said.

This Chief Minister of Karnataka is a joker of the 21st century. He couldn't keep his own house in order. Now he is giving money to temples. Whenever elections appear the temple authorities are distributing money for vote with the prasada they also give 1000 notes each (note for vote) corruption is the main cause of bribing people for vote.

I quote below from the news ndtv:
Sachin had purchased the 8,998 sq ft Dorab Villa in Bandra's Perry Cross Road for Rs. 39 crore in 2007 from the Satra Group. Reportedly, he is pumping nearly the same amount on its remodelling. Unquote.

Poor people have to dream of meal for 3 times a day. Many higher caste people think that if they make charity, laxmi/money is going out from their house. Hence they calculate when to give, how to give and which time to give so that their given charity come back to them once again.

Mr CM, you have no right to decide on public money to whom to give and not give. it is public hard earned money. if you really want to give, then give a shelter to the very needy family.people are even strugling for 5 Rs in India. think of the poor people, then thinking of crorepatis. cup is good for india, that doesnt mean we give them what you like. if you want to give, then give from your pocket.

    Dear Yeddy
there r many citizens without shelter/food/clothing.
it is time now for you to give importance in providing shelter to the needy rather than providing gifts/plots to the cricket players, who are millionaires.
    What's the logic behind this?

The word is not backtracking but Yeddi In a bid to score brownie points, wasted no time in announcing that members of the Indian squad, would be allocated 50x80 BDA plots. Little did he know that he would not be able to keep his promise because he has no authority to make such an announcement. The Karnataka High Court had made it clear that the government has no power to direct the Bangalore Development Authority to allot sites to anyone, as the urban development authority is an autonomous body.
So now yeddi realised he hastily talked nonsense and now he has to compensate for that.
The same Yeddi was not as generous when the girls from Karnataka Aswini Shetty and Mamata won gold in the Commonwealth and Asian Games.

YEDDY SIR FIRST AND FOREMOST TRY TO CONSULT YOUR MINISTERS BEFORE TAKING ANY DECISION. PLEASE DONT TAKE YOUR OWN DECISION. 4 DAYS BACK YOU SAID THAT YOU WILL ALLOT SOME PLOT OF LAND TO INDIAN TEAM MEMBERS AND NOW YOU ARE CHANGING YOUR DECISION. YOU ARE MAKING A WAY FOR THE OPPOSITION PARTIES TO COMMENT AGAINST YOU.

ALSO IS IT REQUIRED FOR YOU TO GIVE CASH PRICE TO ALL OUR INDIAN TEAM MEMBERS WHEN THERE ARE NONE OF THE PLAYERS FROM OUR STATE REPRESENTING INDIAN CRICKET TEAM? ATLEAST GIVE SOME CASH PRICE REWARDS TO ASHWINI SHETTY AND MAMATA POOJARY WHO HAVE MADE OUR STATE PROUD.
