Udupi, Aug 6: Police have arrested three persons and recovered stolen articles valued at Rs 2,99,101 including cash from them comprising gold chains, mobile handsets and vehicles.
The arrested are identified as Mohammed Arif alias Munna (37) a resident of Guttakadu of Talipadi village in Mangaluru taluk who has been an accused in 18 cases, Mohammed Muneer (24), a resident of Adaigudde of Kenjaru village in Mangaluru who has been an accused in eight cases and Akbar (36), a resident of Bajpe in Mangaluru who has been an accused in two cases.
All the three accused were involved in a series of theft cases. They were involved in a chain snatching of an old woman at a house in Nandikooru near UPCL under the Kapu Circle. They had stolen Rs 2.52 lac in cash from a house on Uchila Paniyooru road and stolen parked two-wheelers from Padubidri, Uchila and Katapadi.
The police recovered gold chains, mobile handset, Rs 61,000 in cash and three stolen two-wheelers besides an auto rickshaw, a motorcycle and other valuables.
The police operation was conducted under the direction of N Vishnuvardhan, SP, Udupi, S T Siddalingappa, Additional SP, Udupi and S Vijayakumar, assistant SP, Karkala sub-division with the help of K C Poovaiah, circle inspector, Kapu, Prakash Saliyana, PSI (Investigation), Padubidri, and Praveen Kumar, Rajesh, Hemaraj, Nandesh and Sukumar from crime section.
