Mangalore: Pre-university Lecturers' Boycott Disrupts Evaluation in City

Mangalore, April 8: A boycott call by pre-university lecturers has threatened to disrupt the evaluation work of second PU that began on Friday April 8 and putting future of scores of students in jeopardy. A statewide boycott in 40 other centres has already begun demanding pay-scale matching that of degree college lecturers.

A group of PU lecturers who have floated a new association, Karnataka State Pre-University College Lecturers’ Association, walking out of the evaluation centre in centres like Canara College (Kannada paper), Sharada PU College (History), St Agnes College (Economics) and St Aloysius PU College (English) boycotted the evaluation here on first day itself, on Friday starting at 1.00 pm.

Addressing the protestors, Subrahmanya Bhat, lecturer in Government PU College, Manchi said that their only pending demand pertains to the difference in pay-scales of PU lecturers and degree college lecturers, which is still not addressed by the concerned. In 1980, the salary difference between Degree lecturers and PU lecturers was Rs 150, in 2006, the difference rose to Rs 2,000 and in 2011 the difference margin reached a height of to Rs 13000, he said and questioned while the work is of same nature for both PU and Degree lecturers, how there could be such a huge difference?

Another speaker Viresh, lecturer in GPU College, Krishnapura said that steps should be immediately taken by the State Government to remove the disparity in pay-scales of PU and degree college lecturers and said repeated appeal with the minister has not gained any positive response, thus resulting in boycott.

    This is the peak time for their demand.So that authorities will consider it.They never destroyed the answer sheets .Don't blame them unnecessarily.Everyone need money for living and its their right.Both degree and P.U.college lecturers qualification and nature of work is same.Many of them are under P.U.College and working for Degree also.If someone does Phd or Doctorate its their own wish.

    hey whoever has commemted so far u work at these colleges then u'll know every one needs money ok n PhD is not play ball it requires money wht if these lectures have kids to take care of who will provide rs will u/ dont talk sinply. education is a rt but rt salary is also a right. if u keep employeees happy then oly u get good work wht would u do if ur parents forbade u something fools.there is neccessity for guide time energy money guides demsnds so amny things do Phd itss not childs play

    It is high time that government introduces the pay scale based on higher qualification of lectures.

    So make M.Phil or Ph.D a must to teach to any class beyond 10th std.

    Education is knowledge and right now could be calculated by the academic achievements of lecturers and must be compensated accordingly. No use of years or experience with just a post graduate degree.

    So you lecturers without higher qualifications deserve the salary you have now. Go get a higher degree than what you have now.

    In the same time you have no right to ransack a students life or future by black mailing government for your salary.
