High prices of flight tickets to Mangaluru - Native NRIs prefer to land at Kannur airport

Mangaluru, Aug 8: The prices of flight tickets between Mangaluru and gulf countries are increasing steeply. This is causing a huge burden to NRI Kannadigas.

The rate of flight ticket to neighbouring Kannur International Airport from gulf countries is just half that of Mangaluru. So most of the gulf Kannadigas prefer to land in Kannur rather than in Mangaluru.

Flights of gulf countries started landing directly in Mangaluru due to the constant fight and efforts of NRI Kannadigas. This was a boon to thousands of Kannadigas working in gulf countries. However, the double rate of ticket price has dampened the spirit of people of Karnataka living and working in gulf countries.

At present, the rate of ticket on an Air India Express from Abu Dhabi in UAE to Kannur International airport is AED 450 (Rs 9,700), while for Mangaluru airport it costs AED 850 (Rs 18,350). In addition, flights are landing every day at the Kannur airport, while only four days in a week at Mangaluru international airport.

    Kannur Airport is very spacious beautiful very clean neat and well maintained Its just matter of 3 hours journey from Kannur to Mangalore by taxi and you can save still Rs 5K. No regrets to travel to Kannur instead if Mangalore airport

    This is a Gimmick of Malbari airport before it close it's doors due to huge losses and investors have lost faith in Kannur. Let all keralites take kannur airport and avoid customs check and confiscation of gold in Mangalore airport. Why not many keralites don't go to Kannur even though the prices are one third compared to Mangalore. For Mangalorean's doesn't make sense to fly to Kannur and come by road, rather go to Bangalore or Mumbai and drive down if the prices are high or even take KSRTC super luxury busses.

    That's true the flight from various gulf zones is cheaper to land in Kannur Airport. But once we land in Kannur Airport to travel by car is quite expensive and again a long journey.

    Mangalore is a prime sector for AIE , So rates are hiked to make money , as simple as that. The logic is very simple. Anyone who thinks its unfair that Adani is pocketing the money thru AIE or Govt is looting , Guys just fly to Kannur . Teach the Mangalore airport a good lesson.

    Check Domestic Air Tickets too(Mangalore-Bangalore or Mumbai-Mangalore) very very Clostlier than kannur, Just say its LOOTING, nobody bothers. Kudla is taken for granted.

    If you have enough time (3 to 4 hrs. waiting time in Mumbai) try AUH-BOM-IXE route flying Air India. It is even cheaper than Kannur route. Enjoy the spacious and good Lounge service. It is AED 390 - 440. No Immigration & Customs horrors like the one you face in Mangalore Airport. Comparatively Gulf-IXE rates are always higher than Gulf-Kerala sectors.

Air India is India’s flag carrier and premier full-service airline. Air India Express is a low-cost carrier.     The difference is in Karnataka there's a 40 % commission government and in Kerala peoples pro government.. Doorada betta nunnage...Gujarat model , UP model no one has seen, sub Jumla and bakwas... Where are the developments in Udupi and DK since 2014 !!     Dammam-Mangalore fare is SAR 950, whereas Dammam-Kannur Rate is SAR 575. Why there is so much disparity in the rates for two closed international airport.

    Adani is just in charge of airport maintenance and not civil aviation? He has no say in airlines. Also how is BJP MLA and MP responsible for this? For the structure of the airport , the volume of passengers and the airline catered, the service is good . Anyone finding it uncomfortable, you can opt for Kannur, Dont tell me , they have a 'lounge' and passengers go early to ball around in the lounge.

    Brother kindly note For people it’s doesn’t matter if kannur is under profit or loss All matters is how much money they can save So please don’t give any justification 2 hours of train journey n you are in Mlore 180 kms to Mysore Lesser time for madikeri Other reason is after Adani has taken over n operating cos of airport has increased by 20% Any operating cost increases means passengers pay more

    Dear all, Even if you have to pay more, its better for Mangies to land in Mangalore. Any non malayalee will be fleeced with one pretext or the other by the customs and officials in Mallu Land. I have experienced this . Just beware.
