Mangalore: On Fire Thermacol Laden Lorry at Bunder Burns Vehicles Nearby

Mangalore, April 8: A goods lorry carrying thermacol sheets burst into flames during a delivery run towards Bunder in front of the Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat Urdu Higher Primary School Kandatpalli here on Friday April 8. The cargo is charred, but the driver was unhurt. The lorry was coming from Mumbai to city.

The lorry, two Honda Activa and a motor cycle were also charred  at the end of its run when smoke started coming out of the dashboard after it touched electricity wire. Pandeshwar fire brigade rushed to the spot immediately and tried to extinguish the fire to some extent.

Police said that the loss amount is yet to be estimated by valuing the cost of thermacol charred. The owner of the lorry is said to be of Kadur. Public in large numbers was witnessed at the spot.

    Even in these modern days, our brave fire fighters are using the same old uniform, rather than the new safety gear. There are so many companies in Mangalore, cant anyone sponsor the latest safety gear to these brave men.

    Lack of trainings to drivers in handling cases like this and non-availability of fire extinguishers in trucks is the main concern. RTO should step up its effort in training and make it mandatory to all truck owners to keep one fully charged fire extinguishers in trucks. This will at least bring down the damage to the valuable trucks as well as goods laden on it.
