Billawa Community Leader Pitamber Alke Passes Away

Muscat, Apr 8: Pitamber B Alke, a prominent member of the Billawa community, passed away on Friday April 8 evening at the Royal Hospital here, following a heart attack.

Alke came to Oman in the year 1977 and has been with Nasser Lashko Group since.

Alke was a well-known activist who was ever-ready to help those in need and sincerely dedicated his life to the well-being of the community. He was a great soul of inspiration to the whole of Karnataka community in Oman.

He was one of the key founding members of Tulu Koota. He played a vital role as the president of Ganesh festival committee in Oman which successfully completed its silver jubilee in 2010. He was also the founding member and the president of Oman Billawas since its inception in the year 2009. He was also one of the founding members of Bharat Cooperative Bank in Mumbai.

P B Alke was born to Babu Alke and Sheshamma Alke on April 28, 1942. He is survived by wife Mohini P Alke, daughter Sapna Roshan Salian, son Sandeep P Alke and grandchildren Rayna and Shaisha, his two elder brothers Dhananjaya Alke and Raghav Alke, younger brother Rajeev Alke and younger sister Hema Sanil.

He showered affection on all people and helped them individually irrespective of their background and origin. His work and dedication to the society will be remembered, missed and will be held high in respect and will continue to be an example for years to come.

    Late Mr. Alke was an inspirational leader for the Mangalorean community specially to Billawas. He was instrumental for many cultural events in Muscat. He had taken keen interest to promote Tulu language and Tulunadu culture in Oman. Certainly, the Mangalorean community has lost a great human being. May his soul rest in peace.
