Govt Intends to Introduce Lokpal Bill in Monsoon Session: PM

New Delhi, Apr 9, (DHNS): Terming the joining of hands of civil society and government on the Lokpal Bill issue as a step that augurs well for democracy, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said the government intends to introduce the ''historic legislation'' in the Monsoon Session of Parliament.

"I am happy that the government and representatives of civil society have reached an agreement in our mutual resolve to combat corruption.I am pleased that Anna Hazare has agreed to give up his fast," he said in a statement here.

Describing corruption a a scourge that confronts all of us, the Prime Minister said, "The fact that the civil society and the government have joined hands to evolve a consensus to move this historic legislation augurs well for our democracy."

He said the interaction between the government and the representatives of Hazare was productive.

"I hope that process to prepare this legislation will move forward in a constructive mode so that after consultation with a wide spectrum of stake holders, this legislation is placed before the Cabinet for introduction during the Monsoon Session," the Prime Minister said.
Government had last night agreed to issue a formal order to set up a 10-member joint committee for drafting a strong Lokpal Bill.

The announcement of an agreement came from both sides after four days of Hazare's fast-unto-death that evoked a nationwide support cutting across the society.

"Government has accepted all our demands and I will end my fast tomorrow at 10:30 A.M. This is a victory for the entire nation," Hazare had said last night.

Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee will be the Chairman of the committee that will also include Law Minister Veerappa Moily, Telecom Minister Sibal, Home Minister P Chidambaram and Water Resources Minister Salman Khurshid as members.

Besides Hazare, those representing the civil society in the joint committee will be eminent lawyers Shanti Bhushan, Prasant Bhushan, retired Supreme Court Judge Santosh Hegde and RTI activist Arvind Kejriwal. Shanti Bhushan will be the co-Chairman.

I want to ask you have seen anil kapoor's nayak movie. In that Paresh rawal narrats a very good dailogue like " hamare desh me mantrionke kilaf bahut sare cases chalta hai. Ek taraf case chalta hai and dusre taraf mantri log aaish karte aur budda ho kar apne aap mar jata hai. Aur case apne aap bandh ho jata hai. The same thing happening with your congress central UPA govt now.

Louis D'Souza, Udupi/Kuwait what a joke by you MMS is best PM since independence. I think you dont know when india got independence. I was in the year 1947 brother and not in 2007. If you say MMS is the best PM since independence then that means the PM's like Nehru, Indira Gandhi, Lal Bahadur Shastri, Rajiv Gandhi, Vajpayee etc are all bad.

This is the last chance for Govt officials - likes of RTO and sub registrar officials who so shamelessly ask for bribe to do common man's work. Once the Jan lokpal bill comes, you folks will go to Jail, there won't be second chance. You just have about 2 months to correct your self.. Subregistrar alone gets Rs5,000/ for each registration and they have 40 per day.. They behave as if they are doing a favour to us! Anna Hazare's words will haunt them - Publick Maalik, Govt Sevak.. Jai Ho, Jai Hind.

Present congress led Central UPA govt is the best govt. since Independence, Man Mohan Singh is the best P. M. that’s the reason central govt. took immediate steps to introduce LOKPAL Bill in next Monsoon session. Anna Hazare clearly told to keep Brasta ministers out from the committee, [not Brasta Janara Party (BJP) so guys kindly don’t miss understand his words] this movement is just like the 1977movemnt of Jaya Prakash Narayan. During those days Mrs. Indira Gandhi slammed emergency and Indian public slapped her back in next election. Sonya Gandhi is just the opposite she don’t want to keep any corrupt MLA in her ministry she had taken prompt action on all corrupt ministers. Anna Hazare told all political parties to stay away because no one is clean. But some Swamijy’s who have amassed crores in India n abroad are trying join his movement. Including, that no. 1 chore Yoga master. There should be strict measures to nab corrupt Politian’s and government administrators. This Lokpal Bill should be applicable, from Peon to govt officials, Speakers, High Court Judges, Supreme Court judges, Chief Ministers, Even Prime Minister, along with general public. Except Governors, President n Vice President.

Good luck PM... It look like whole drama stage managed with the blessing of PM and UPA as it appears from the face of it. No resistance either from the ruling party or the oposition. It is difficult to believe that the Government is so generous to accept Anna Hazare Team suggessions while Right to education bill is dock.
