New Delhi, April 10 (IANS) A woman allegedly heading a gang, suspected to have stolen over 7,000 vehicles in and around the capital has been arrested, police said Saturday, adding the gang was also involved in supplying the vehicles to insurgent outfits in northeast India.

Nirmala ,35, a mother of two, entered the world of crime two years ago following a tiff with her husband, a local criminal, police said.

"Nirmala Devi was nabbed from her residence in Gokulpuri in East Delhi Thursday. Six of her accomplices, including her brothers - Vipin and Raju - had been nabbed earlier," said a senior police officer, adding that the Maharashtra Control of Organised Criminal Act (MCOCA) has been slapped on her.

"The gang used to sell the stolen vehicles to several guerrilla outfits in northeastern India. Nirmala used to keep 40 percent of the earnings and distribute the rest among her gang members," a police official said.

According to police, she revealed during questioning that the gang was operating two bank accounts, opened on the basis of fake documents, in Gurgaon.

"We have recovered around Rs. 35 lakh from the said accounts which are estimated to have funds upwards of Rs. 2 crores," the officer added.
