Sharjah: Singing Contest to Mark 9th Anniversary of Karnataka Sangha

Sharjah, Apr 10: Karnataka Sangha Sharjah will host singing contest ‘Mayura’ for Kannadigas in UAE. It will feature Kannada film songs, folk songs, patriotic songs and melodious poetry. 

The event marks the 9th anniversary of the Sangha. The first round of the competition will be held at Fotune Plaza (Princess Hotel) in Al Ghusais, Dubai, on Friday April 29 and all Kannadigas aged 18 and above are eligible for participation. 

The participants will have to sing without any background music and the best three each selected from men’s and women’s categories will be allowed to sing using karaoke system during Karnataka Sangha Sharjah’s 9th annual day celebration programme to be held on Friday May 13. It will be a  big celebration scheduled to be held at Majestic Hall, Ramada Hotel, Ajman, where variety entertainment will be presented along with ‘Mayura’ award presentation to the ‘Kannadiga of the Year’ amidst noted guests specially invited to the programme.

Karnataka Sangha Sharjah has been awarding the ‘Mayura Award’ to deserving Kannadigas from various fields during their annual celebrations every year. Simultaneously, the winners of women’s throw ball and men’s volley ball have been awarded with the ‘Mayura Cup’ every year.  This year, the winners of the singing competition in both categories, will be awarded with ‘Mayura Raja’ and ‘Mayura Rani’ awards during the annual day celebration.


Rules of the singing competition:
1. This competition is open to all of Karnataka origins aged 18 years and above and must be resident of UAE with valid visa.
 
2. The competition will be held in two categories for males and females separately and language strictly Kannada (Film Songs, Folk Songs, Patriotic Songs & Melodious Poetry)
 
3. The competition will consist of a preliminary round auditioned without Musical instruments on 29th April 2011 @ Fortune Plaza (Princess Hotel), Al Ghusais, Dubai.
 
4. Grand Finale of this singing competition will be held with karaoke system during the Karnataka Sangha Sahrjah’s annual program to be held on  13th,May,2011 at Ramada Hotel Ajman, Majestic Hall.
 
5. Prizes are as follows:-
    - First Prize: ‘MAYURA RAJA’ & ‘MAYURA RANI’ Award
    - 1st Runner up Prize:
    - 2nd Runners up Prize:
 
6. The decisions of the judges are final and incontestable.
 
7. For the final 3 from Male & 3 from Female will be selected in preliminary round &  prizes will be awarded at the end of the Grand finale.
 
8. Candidates must fill attached application along with recent passport size photographs and send it to email mayurarajarani@gmail.com  before 20th April 2011

9. Judging criteria: The competition will be judged as per the following criteria:
     - Musicality (rhythm and control over voice)
     - Technical competence (clarity of words, pitch quality and voice culture)
     - Rapport with the audience
     - Expression and general presentation
 
10. Maximum time of every presentation should be at least 3 minutes and should not exceed 5 minutes.
 
11. Singing sequence will be by lots’ as per informed date, to the contestants.
 
12. Cancellation of the entry should be done at least 7 days prior to the       preliminary rounds.

13. Karnataka Sangha Sharjah reserves all rights to make necessary alterations to the rules and regulations without prior notice to the  contestants.

    It's good that someone is there to take care of Kannada Songs. otherwise all will behind bollywood and other languages.

    Wisk good luck all singers hailed from Karnataka origin,who can sing Kannada songs and aligible to be a Raja Mayura/Rani Mayura.
