Japan Quake Toll Rises to 13,000


Tokyo, April 11 (IANS) The massive earthquake and tsunami that struck Japan a month ago has left 13,116 people dead, while 14,377 were still unaccounted for till Monday morning, officials said.

Around 151,000 survivors were staying in 2,300 temporary shelters across the country, Xinhua reported citing the National Police Agency.

The magnitude-9 earthquake hit the Pacific coastal areas of northeastern Japan March 11, triggering an enormous tsunami that also led to explosions in three nuclear reactors at the Fukushima power plant.
