Beltangady, Aug 14: In an amusing incident that is reported from Kalleri market area of Karaya village of Beltangady taluk, a thief who in a bid to steal from a bank, hotel and medical shop, received an injury on the head and the blood spilling from his head till his home created a trail of for the police.
The thief first tried to break open the front door of Moortedarara bank by the side of the gram panchayat office. When he failed in his attempt, he tried to use a rod that was kept in a pickup vehicle which was parked nearby. But he could not open the door of the pickup. So he broke the windshield of the pickup and took out the rod. However, later he changed his mind and instead of breaking open the bank door, he entered a nearby hotel. He stole around Rs 5,000 from the cash box of the hotel.
After the theft in the hotel, the thief broke open the rear window of a pharmacy store nearby with the rod. There also he took away Rs 5,000 cash. He had noticed the CCTV camera in the pharmacy store. So he had cut off its connection. However, while cutting off the connection, his head banged against the door of the clinic and caused a deep gash. Blood started oozing out and the thief fled the spot. However, the drops of blood fell all along the path he ran.
Police started searching for the thief after complaints were filed by the medical shop and hotel owners. The CCTV camera captured his visuals and he was found to be familiar to all the locals. Based on the finding, police arrested Ashraf (37), son of Abdul Khader, resident of Shantibettu Mane, Kaukradi village in Kadaba. He is accused in other theft cases also.
The accused was working in the solid waste collection unit of Tannerupantha Gram Panchayat. He used to make a note of the targets that could be easily burgled. This was unearthed by the police during interrogation.
