Mangaluru, Aug 14: In his Independence Day message, Dr Peter Paul Saldanha, Bishop of Mangalore Diocese said, “I wish every one a happy Platinum Jubilee celebration of India’s independence day.
“We are Indians living in an independent country. We are proud of this fact. We have got this freedom due to the fight and sacrifices of our forefathers. We are enjoying the fruits of their sacrifices and martyrdom. I salute all the freedom fighters and I am indebted to them.
“Though our country got independence 75 years ago we have to march forward by stamping certain drawbacks. Poverty is still there in the country. Unemployment issue is still bothering our youth. This is a matter of serious concern. I wish our country should come out of these serious issues and march towards progress.
“Though a major revolution has taken place in the education sector, considerable improvement still needs to take place. When the national flag flutters in the air towards the sky, it bothers that the saying of unity in diversity is still not completely justified. Friction and discrimination in the name of religion should stop for sure. Instead, all of us have to work towards harmony.
“Only when every one has a unique contribution to the country can we head towards the centenary celebration of our country's independence. Every Indian citizen should feel that the country will climb steps of newness in the next 25 years," he said.
“Once again I wish all of you happy Independence Day. Let peace, content and patriotism prevail throughout the country. Let us all join our hands together and realise the dream of strengthening a new India.
“Once again good wishes on the Platinum jubilee occasion of freedom. Let Mother India embrace every one of us. I pray God’s blessings on all of you.”
