Congress Attacks Achuthanandan for His 'Amul baby' Comment

New Delhi/Kolkata, April 11 (IANS) A day after Kerala Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan called Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi an "Amul baby", the party hit back with senior Congress leader Pranab Mukherjee terming it an "uncivilised" comment.

"I don't want to comment on any uncivilised comment. That is my stated position. I have never done it. This kind of comment shows the individual tastes of the person," Mukherjee told reporters in Kolkata.

Senior leader Digvijay Singh said in New Delhi that such comments were not expected of the Kerala chief minister.

"The Kerala chief minister is a good person and where he got such a term as 'Amul baby' from I fail to understand. Such language is not expected of him," Singh told reporters.

Achuthanandan made the comment Sunday in reaction to Gandhi's comment on his age at an election rally. The Kerala chief minister is 87 years old, and Gandhi pointed out to voters that if the Left Front returned to power, Kerala would have a 93-year-old chief minister by the time of the next elections.

"The Amul baby has come here to campaign for some Amul baby candidates of the Congress party," Achuthanandan said.

The assembly polls will be held Wednesday and the results will be declared May 13.

87 - 93 years people calling Rahul Amul Baby rightly said He is only 40 Years & all the youth of India were Amul babies,When Achutanaand was 47. Give the old man and his party the benifit of dotage. Long live Achutanad. We wish you another 100 years of rule. But sorry electoral reforms are round the corner and age & qualification will be one of the factors. So Mr. Achuthanand keep your fingers crossed . Anna will take notice.
