Mangalore, Apr 11:
As many as 1,300 protestors took to streets and shouted slogans against the child welfare department and communal fundamentalists here on Monday April 11, condemning the false allegations including that of conversion levelled against some of the institutions involved in social service recently.

The protest was led by 37 like-minded unions like Konkani Yuva Awaz, IFKCA, Dalita Sangharsha Samithi, All India National Congress, JD(S), DYFI and Komu Sauhardha Vedike among others.

Vincent Alva, lecturer, Milagres College Kallianpur said that simple protests with just placards to condemn the attacks on minority community have not made any difference to the authorities. This protest is not a reaction by angered youth. Many seniors like ex-MLC Octavia Albuquerque are also annoyed by the recent attack on institutions run by the Christian community, he said.

Recalling the attacks on churches about two years ago, he said the culprits are wandering on the streets without any fear, but those who were attacked are facing criminal cases. Police was responsible for this, he added.

About the Justice Somashekar Commission report, he said the Justice Somashekar was controlled by Bajrang Dal activists, and made a snide remark that he may also get doctorate very soon.

On corporator and leader of opposition in the MCC Lancelot Pinto, he said that Pinto is concerned about society but the police have filed a non-bailable case against him. Stella Maris was an institution that has been providing education since pre-independence era. If the allegation of conversion was true, then Christians would have been the majority population in Mangalore by now, he noted. He also alleged that the government is behind all these nuisances as it fears the people of Hindu community will not vote for it.

He also clarified that not all people belonging to majority community are fundamentalists, but only a handful. He alleged that Bajrang Dal activists get Rs 150 daily wages from the government for what they do. He questioned Bajrang Dal's audacity in taking law into its hands, and suggested that those activists need to study the Constitution.

Coming down heavily on police atrocity on the minority communities he said that a person who was carrying the Bible in his bag in Madikeri was thrashed by activists of Bajrang Dal and was supported by the police. He reiterated that there is no scope for moral policing in a democratic country.

Speaking on allegations of conversion against Christians, he said that more than 80,000 students have studied and passed out of Christian institutions. "Let even one among them come and allege that he was converted, then we will agree that Christians engage in conversion," he challenged.

About Bajrang Dal activists, he wondered whether they were capable of looking after even one destitute child. Recalling an incident when even Mother Teresa had been accused of conversion, Alva said that when the police commissioner in Kolkata visited Mother Teresa's centre, he could not even tolerate the smell emanating from the leprosy patients, but Mother Teresa was cleaning their bodies and was serving them selflessly.

Launching an attack on the child welfare development officers, he said that they do not have feelings of sympathy or compassion which is needed in their field. He said that the protestors are not begging anything, but demanding the protection of their rights.

District convener of Karnataka Dalit Sangharsha Samithi Krishnananda D said that issues of untouchability, caste system and illiteracy are intentionally provoked by upper class people. "None of the religious leaders in the Hindu community have come forward to help the Dalits. Christian education institutions have provided education for all, while Hindu upper class people did not even offer us water to drink," he said.

Calling activists of Bajrang Dal scapegoats of politicians, he warned of public litigation against Bajrang Dal and the police.

Ali Hasan, president of the Muslim Merchants' Association said that they have gathered in front of the DC’s office without any fear, and that the protest shows the unity and capacity of minority community people to go against the government. The protestors said that they do not want a government that supports gundaism. He accused the police department of failure of duty, and said that the presence of anti-social activists in the city is a testimonial to it.

He also asserted that people of the minority community belong to this country, and are not migrants, and added that they would arrange an alternate system to curb such anti-social activists if similar incidents continue.

MLA Ramanath Rai, Sunil Kumar Bajal, William Menezes, ex-MLA Vijaykumar Shetty, DYFI's Muneer Katipalla, P B D’Sa, Krishnappa Salian, Denis Moras Prabhu, Naveen D’Souza, Alwyn D’Souza, Arun Coelho, Walter Cyril, Mariamma Thomas, among others were present. Dolphy Prashanth D'Souza, emerging Congress leader and Steven Mogarnad, youth Congress block president, Bantwal were also present.

So long as there are remote areas, slums, orphans, abandoned children and political riots and ecological im-balances, children can be available from any such sources. But the fact that the children feel comfortable is to be noted. Legal formalities could be completed any time so long as they are not bullied. On the basis of political difference, one need not be punished.

    Dear Mr. Khosla,

You guys are so ignorant that you cant even talk strait. No one deny the fact that Indian rules even ruled the areas up to Persia and Afghan, But what it has to do with the minorities and conversion? I was trying to clear the difference between a nation and religion? British were ruling India as a nation and not as a religion. They even invaded major countries in the world. and please remember they saw the seeds of fundamentalism in our country and divided it into 3 pieces. and now people like bajarangis and other fundamentalists are still reaping the fruit. We have many enemies to fight, Corruption, terrorism and illiteracy and population. poverty. Pray these Bajarangis divert their energy in fighting these evils. If there is no poverty and there is literacy no one can convert anyone. A self sufficient person cannot be brain washed, Jai Hind

Bennet Vas : " Similarly, we have the absurdity of religious conflicts. The Supreme Reality, GOD, is one of the same. The difference is only in the name. One calls it Brahma, the other calls it Allah and the third calls it Father in haven etc."

Great story, but have you read your ten commandments?. It clearly states the opposite. Your god is the only god and the others are rubbish. Can you rectify that first. The story you state is the hindu spiritual belief that all gods are the same.

In essence what is referred is one and the same Supreme. “True devotion is not mere belief in God, but complete trust in the goodness of man.” True devotion is going beyond the names and forms and realizing the unity everywhere, it is recognizing the universal unity of everything.

Born in a particular religion is not our mistake it is for our identity only. We all are the creation of GOD – the identical human being.
Let us firmly believe in whichever religion we are born, but always be a good human being helpful to the humanity– the Atma (Soul) will live forever but not our so called “beautiful body”.

Having said that - there can be no denying the fact that there is a very deep rooted agenda by the handful of Hindu "Fundamentalist’s" to wipe out the Christian Community particularly in South Kanara / Mangalore - the reasons are well known (Conversion is just an excuse to side track the real motive !) by the educated and cannot be put in a public forum for obvious reasons. Rest assured that God will punish all those who are unjustly targeting and harassing this docile and peace loving catholic community. God Bless & Jai Hind

Once there were three boys who were good friends. One was a Persian, the other an English boy and the third was an Indian. They did not know each other’s language properly however, they managed to communicate each other. Their master gave them a sum of money. The English boy said “let us buy a watermelon with this.” The Indian boy propped up and insisted “No! Let us buy a tarbooz (watermelon in Hindi).” Then the Person boy said, “I want to buy a hindwana (watermelon in Persian)”, and he was adamant about it. They began to quarrel and fight with each other, asserting each other’s demand.

A passer-by was watching the quarrel. He knew all the three languages. He came to them and said “Trust me and give me the money and I will give you exactly what you want”. The man went and bought a watermelon kept it concealed from them and cut it into three pieces. He called the English boy and asked what he wanted. The boy asserted he wants watermelon only. “Here, take your watermelon” said the man. The boy was excited. Then he called the Indian boy and handed over the second piece of the fruit, the tarbooz he wanted. The boy was overjoyed. The last piece he gave to the Persian boy and asked him if that was what he wanted? He was highly elated having received his hindwana. The fruit that all three wanted was one and the same, the wNow examine the cause of the conflict, quarrel and quibble. Mere names! Here all the three were fighting over the same fruit but by calling different names.
Similarly, we have the absurdity of religious conflicts. The Supreme Reality, GOD, is one of the same. The difference is only in the name. One calls it Brahma, the other calls it Allah and the third calls it Father in haven etc.

Dear Dr S Kamath , Mumbai,

There is some truth in Mr Sathish S B is Comments but he could have presented it differently. It is the fact that the leaders of these communal outfits stay inside Air Condition offices and they emotionally blackmail unemployed youths in the name of religion and use them to carry out the street fights. These leaders are mostly cowards and if left alone do not have the courage even to stand against anybody. These outfits can only attack the weak and if confronted they retreat and the recent incident at Urva Marigudi proved this fact.

I feel it is too harsh to say that Mr. Sathish S B’s comments are “Defamatory and Highly Objectionable”. There are much more objectionable comments are written in this forum and you might have overlooked such comments because that supports your view point. There are good or bad people in every community and we can not characterize that particular community is better than the other.

I agree with you there are renowned personalities in every community and they have served the society without any bias of caste or community. It is necessary for us to follow these great personalities and serve the society without dividing the society in the name of religion.

    Dear Mr. Nagesh Nayak,

There was lawlessness for a week in Mangalore in the year 2008.
All over Karnataka minority's churches were attacked.
With the help of VHP & BJDL thugs beat women & nuns mercilessly by the Police.
Incidents are still going on with the support of the bjp government.
    Church attacker's cases were dissolved.
Christian Protesters were detained, booked cases & still on.

Fake conversion case filed against Jillu.
Cases against prayer houses were filed.
Non-Bailable case booked against Mr. Lancelot Pinto for the good work of the society orphans. (Is it a murder case or a criminal case?)
Children Welfare Society authorities should have come to the knees of Mr. Lance Lot Pinto to provide registration to the orphan.
Petrol pump run by Christian at KPT circle was demolished by the corporation without issuing notice to owner/without giving time limit.
Justice Somashekar's final report is a fraud dictated by fundamentals & injustice to Christians.

    In Gujarat atrocities against Christians.
    In Orissa atrocities against Christians.
In Madhya Pradesh Christians feel helplessness.
Overall Christians in Karnataka & bjp ruled states in India feeling insecurity.

Mr. Nagesh Nayak is feeling good because he is an agent of BJP getting fat commissions from the corrupt money for poisoning minds of Hindus moving door to door with leaflets.

disturbing that the protestors are supporting this antisocial pastor purely because he

If a good religion teaches real good and moral value as Jesus preached of brotherhood and sisterhood, love and peace who will not like to follow this wonerful leader? It is only jealousy, ignorance and anger prevents one to follow the real truth and to appreciate it in ones life. So conversions will surely take place when the good and the best is offered to them freely from God. No one can prevent them or snatch them from God. Those who attempt to work against God will face a big failure and will regret it forever. So act wisely and choose the bet things which the great leaders like Jesus Christ offers through his teachings and actions. No violence but only love and service of others.

Article 26© and(d)recognize the right of a religious denomination to own, acquire and administer movable and immovable property in accordance with law.

Article 30 deals with another aspect of collective freedom of religion:
(1)All minorities, whether based on religion or language, shall have the right to establish and administer educational institutions of their choice.
(2)The state shall not, in granting aid to educational institutions, discriminate against any educational institution on the ground that it is under the management of a minority, whether based on religion or language.

The object behind Article 29 & 30 is the recognition and preservation of the different types of people, with diverse languages and different beliefs, which constitute the essence of secularism in India.

’Article 26(b)of the Constitution they had the right to manage their own affairs in matters of religion.

India is a secular country. The term‘secular denotes the threefold relationship among man, state and religion. A Secular State means that the one that protects all religions equally and does not uphold any religion as the State.

A religion has its basis in a system of beliefs or doctrines, which are regarded by those who profess that religion as conducive to their spiritual well being. A religion may not only lay down a code of ethnical rules for its followers to accept, it might prescribe rituals and observances, ceremonies and modes of worship.

British Govt. was implemented Divide and Rule policy in India because they knew that it is easier to conquer India with that strategy. Now our so called politicians are also doing the same thing. They would like to capture the vote bank by dividing Hindu,Muslim,Christian etc.etc and now the only Astra (weapon) for them is Hindutva.

One group of Politicians are pictured India has a country which is only meant for Hindus. They are fighting inside the parliament and outside having lunch in the same table. One is in Congress today, tomorrow we can see him in BJP or vice versa.By doing all this drama they are trying to fool the common people but the fact is they are fooling themselves. As per 2001 census information 80.5% population of India are Hindus and remaining 19.5 % are Muslims, Christians etc…etc.

So they think if this one community will support us we will definitely rule the nation. But they forgot that out of 80.5% the 75.5% of Hindus are coming under literacy rate. Because of one uneducated, uncultured group of Hindus by doing all these kind of nonsense are spoiling 75.5% of Educated Hindus reputation. All of us know very well that all these attacks are fully provoked by the state government. The riot creators knew that neither police nor court will kick them inside the jail & punish them. It’s a high time to fight for humanity not for Hindutva.I request all my brothers who are occupied in these activities, be a human being first then think rest of all.

    Dear friends,

Religious fundamentalism will persist in India and in the world as long as branded religions with irrational customs, rituals, shrines of glittering external display and hollow internal faith which distinguishes human beings from each other in the pretext of God and worship continues. Nobody is sure whether the single Almighty God of all religions likes to be worshipped the way He is now and if He does, He is supreme selfish to be aspiring to be worshipped. In my opinion, the true God just wants all human beings to convert from sin to salvation and live harmoneously.
Refrain from sins of both commission and ommission, seek education on rational faith, practice what you preach, sacrifice when necessary and live harmless to others.
The most rational but impractical solution to the problem would be to remove all externally distinguishing signs of religions and convert places of worship into Schools of rational faith where everyone can learn about every religion and extract the best out of everything. Amen

What conversions are you talking about?
Christians are a dwindling community in India with population of less than 2%.
Most of our children prefer to migrate because they cannot work in India with incompetence and corruption.
Helping the downtrodden, backward, helpless and disabled is our way of life and if you know Jesus Christ his teachings are as follows “Whatever you do to the least of brethren you do to me”.
You guys are raising the Conversion bogey time and again. Are you suffering from some complex?
In spite of all this you guys will fight to send your child to Christian institutions.
You need to thank Christians for improving your quality of life or else you would still be roaming in a longoat, squatting on the floor and excreting in the open.

Yes. Hindus are doing charity. Remember many higher caste people think that if they make charity, laxmi/money is going out from their house. Hence they calculate when to give, how to give and which time to give so that their given charity come back to them once again. Is this charity you mena???

I quote your comment: who are doing the dirty act of converting Unquote.

What do you mean dirty act of converting??? The Fundamental are converting Christians forcibly with cow dung and urine

I quote once again: Why the people in this picture doesnt protest for illegal conversion? when we look all those things it clearly states that church is indirectly supporting the conversion in India.. Unquote.

Anyway, I could see few priests and no rich people from the minority community which I am talking about Christians.

    @Ravi Kadri, Mangalore,
What conversions are you talking about?
Anyways, Happy Ramnavami and may Lord Ram enlighten you.

According to you Mr. Ravi “most of the Hindus believe that the conversion…” Why do you make baseless and unfounded allegations my dear friend? If there were conversions then you produce the proof and notify to the concerned authority. Who gave you or your so called fundamentalist organizations to take law in your hand?
By the way when did you take a survey to find out from your Hindu brethren that conversions are taking place continuously? And how many of your friends have been converted to Christianity? It would have been just from your part to produce a proof of it, than to write here nonsense. Christians make less than 3% of the whole population of India and you consider them to be a threat. If you are a Hindu fundamentalist keep to yourselves! It is neither a religion nor the way of life but a false way of life which is destroying the harmony, brotherhood and peace of our country. Please next time think twice before you write something. Jai Barath Matha!!!!

As long as this BJP government rules in Karnataka Christians cannot expect peace. The bjp is tossing hindutva card inciting its fundamental organizations to stir and provoke young Hindu minds to hate Christians.

The word of God is true.

Luke 21: 17 And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake.

I saw the protest speeches in the daijiworld video which I found genuine, truthfulness and shame on perverted bjp and its associates

Seed of revulsion or hateredness was sown by few religion based political parties therefore we find excess love of Hinduism in only those states while in other states they do not find bone of content – conversion. Where was BD’s special agenda of conversion during the congress rule ? Good News, Today seed of resistance was sown very vigoursly by all the entire gathering and its speakers. It would be definitely grow speedily for the deliverance of many by sudden change of events in Bangalore for the defeat of overzealous outfit, of course all will be done by the unseen hand, The Almighty.

It is not as simple to convert and become a catholic. It requires months of penance before you can be baptised and converted. Most of these BD jokers who are insitigated by upper class hindus are not aware of this fact and act as unequiped foot soldiers for the actual cowards who lure the uneducated, unemployed lower class youth to disrupt society. There is an acute shortage of maids, servants and bonded labour today. The upper classes of hindus are feeling the pinch as they can no longer lord over these hapless people. The charitable christian institutions have been helping all the have nots in standing up and questioning the upper classes for their rights by providing education and alternatives to be self sufficient and this is seriously hurting the upper classes. Therefore this is the the last dice of the upper classes. That is to torment the minorities by playing the conversion card. No much difference between them and Gaddafi's final suicidal acts. Both are destined for doom.

As saying goes "No smoke without fire" If there was no conversion effort by Christians, 1300 protesters would not be in existence. It requires no proof and most of Hindu’s believe that the conversion of Hindu’s to Christianity is being done continuously by Christians. However in real sense Hinduism is a way of life not a religion therefore the foreign religions could not succeed in converting all Indians. As far as Christian institutions charity works and contribution to education in India, we don’t deny the claimed contribution, but some Christian outfits are using the charity as a cover to their conversion activities. Which is objectionable.

We are protesting now, we had protested sometime back against the Somashekar Comm Report. This protest too will be forgotten like the earlier one. What are the tangible outcomes of these protests? Are our community leaders following up of the earlier assurances? Do we have a single leader to lead us, or we are a leaderless society? The massive support that Anna Hazare got, should open our eyes and in particular our leader's eyes. BJP came to power in Karnataka with the blessings of Narendra Modi. At least he is trying to wash his sins by doing some development work in Gujarat, which he is supposed to do even otherwise. What is in store for Christians in Karnataka in the days to come? Is it just the beginning of a larger plan to be uted in the lines of Gujarat? Hope our community leaders as well as the political leaders wake up before it is too late to weed out this cancer of hatred from the society.

Am just wondering, is this problems happening on Christians (Minority) and our CM just watching it ? What a shame, little humanity should be there.More over, as per Daijiworld, statement only 1300 people came out to protest, why so small numbers ? If there is a wedding at a time more then 2000 people are attending for the fuction, that also without fail. In Mangalore there is so many Churches and Convents and Education institutes are there but when I read only 1300 people gathered for the protest, really it is very sad to know only 1300people came to street.

There is so many our politicians are there but what is the use ? Better we have to appeal to our government, instead of giving cash award to our Cricketer, if it's goes to the Police Department for their wonderful job, what they are doing at presently. Keep it up, like to appreciate work of BD people and Police department for their wonderful job. But don't punish the poor children and whoever doing the Charity work, act like good human beings. The amount of Police force was in Stella Maria Institution, that much force did not had in World Cup Cricket Match time. So wonderful job done by our Government.

As a hindu am ashamed of BD and BJPs divide and rule politics. This is all planned by upper class hindus as they are afraid of lower class hindus getting education and becoming successful and overcoming the caste barrier / curse. All Brahmins and GSB's are BJP / BD supporters, but don't have guts to join BD and do the dirty work and so they employ uneducated, unemployed lower class hindu youth like bunts, poojaries etc. to do their dirty work for them. These Brahmins / GSB's talk about hindutva, conversion, retaining the caste system etc., but will be the first person to send their son to States (USA) and work and settle there (which is a country founded on Christian principles), or will marry off their daugthers to someone working there.

Very, very, very, cunning, I say!

Thank you folks for organizing the
protest on behalf of All Catholics. God bless you all who were there. Unless authories are honest, there will be no peace in community because of these hoodlums called BD
Alas! Why Catholic Bishop of Mangalore is missing in protest? Did anyone informed Him that Catholic Institutions are attacked and people of the Diocese are protesting. May be He does not or He is in slumber. Or may be needed a fund-riser to get His attention. There were many Nuns in gathering but few priests. Our leaders only come when there is opportunity to get dough.

In Pakistan Musharaf encouraged terrorist to fight Kashmir decades ago, now Pakistan is burning because of TERRORISM. Same way BD unemployed youth BJP is using behind the scene to provoke minorities for their political agenda. These foolish people do not use their head even though their main leader now joined JD(S) political party after exposing BJP is behind minorities attack.

Th recent actions are to silence us by accepting somashekar report as it is. Mr. Lancelot theiy are taking revenge since he opposed property hike issue. Later they will be the ultimate loser. Political party will be there for 5 yrs and next term when other party comes BD doesn't know what to do, they will beat their OWN BAND. This is always the outcome of unmatured action of any group. Nice to see so many people gathered for protests. But, I feel its of no use, Absolute waste of time, Poor people are protesting in the hot sun which makes them still suffer. Dont consider this to be success because the middle east protests and Anna Hazare protests are success, The difference is the protests were done by mass majority people, not minorities. Again minor is Minor.May work in some other countries but not in India...Cocnetrate on your own development, improve the orphans and people in your own community, be entrepreneurs, play big roles in politics, thats the key thing...If you turn another cheek when someone strikes you on one cheek, he will keep on striking you......Eye for an eye makes the world blind in a 19th century concept, See how Israelis brought peace to their region....This is 20 th century, If you wanna win the match hit sixes.....Gandhi's Satyagraha worked with Brits not Indians, They shot him....So moral of the story'In Rome be a Roman '....Again just my thoughts....Different people have different thoughts...Good luck guys !

Very Very good, the contents of this article are mind blowing and showing the weakness of Bajrang Dal, Activists scapegoats of politicians. 1st of all they are uneducated they don’t know constitution nor they respect constitution. They are not capable of educating even one child of backward Hindu community. President has already warned Yeddy on attacks on churches two years before we should send a Memorandum to Governor of Karnataka & President of India to dismiss this govt. immediately as it’s not able to protect the rights of minorities. God bless all the participants, Hindu & Muslim friends for their concern. High class Hindus doesn’t like backward communities, studying in English Medium Schools, convent school, becoming IAS officers bcz these people don’t want to make Salam to Dalits in Govt. offices. This Bajrang Dal activist doesn’t know that they are scapegoats of High class Hindus.
