Bengaluru, Aug 15: JD(S) Legislature Party leader and former Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy alleged that the ruling BJP, which is behaving as custodian of patriotism was responsible for country’s partition and further charged that father of the nation, Mahatma Gandhi’s killers caused the partition.
Speaking after hoisting the national flag at the party office on Monday, he also attacked the Congress party and termed it as ‘fake party’ and contended the Congress party which fought for the country’s freedom was the ‘real Congress’ and the present party as ‘fake Congress’.
Kumaraswamy said it was a sad commentary that the ruling BJP was not showing the respect due to the country’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru by ignoring his photograph in the State Government’s advertisement on the freedom fighters and also blaming him as being responsible for partition.
“The narrow and petty mentality of the BJP and its leaders was responsible for partition,’’ he said condemning the blame on Nehru for being responsible for partition. “Who killed Mahatma Gandhi and who is glorifying the killers even now,’’ he asked.
The JD(S) leader said the two national parties were trying to fool the people by using the national tricolour. While BJP is implementing Har Ghar Tiranga, the Congress party has undertaken freedom march.
Kumaraswamy said it was deplorable that the ruling party and the government are showing their narrow mindedness by omitting the picture of Nehru, which is a matter of shame for all citizens. “We know the contribution, sacrifice and service of Nehru,’’ he said expressing his unhappiness at the denigration of Nehru.
He criticized the arrest of Muslim youth for removing the picture of Sawarkar and tearing the flex banner of Tippu Sultan. “Is this the way to celebration Azadi ki Amrit Mahotsav,’’ he asked and condemned the practice of narrow mindedness of the Central and State governments headed by BJP.
State JD(S) Chief C M Ibrahim recalled that he had hoisted the national flag at the party office in 1995 when JD(S) supremo HD Deve Gowda was the State Chief Minister. “I will unfurl the national flag next year in the same office when H D Kumaraswamy will be the Chief Minister,’’ he predicted pointing out that Deve Gowda was the only Kannadiga to unfurl the national flag at Red Fort.
