Udupi, Aug 18: National chief secretary of BJP Minority Morcha Yashpal Suvarna has written a letter to the city municipality seeking permission to install a statue of Savarkar at Brahmagiri Circle.
The Congress and SDPI had vehemently opposed raising of a flex board having a photo of Savarkar at the Brahmagiri Circle. Yashpal Suvarna had challenged both Congress and SDPI that he would install an idol of Savarkar if they continued objecting. Accordingly, he has written a letter to the president of the city municipality and commissioner.
In his letter to the president and commissioner of city municipality, Yashpal Suvarna says, “We have decided to honour, on behalf of all the patriots of this country, Vinayaka Damodara Savarkar, who was at the forefront of Indian Independence struggle, by installing his idol at the Brahmagiri Circle in the city.
“This is the right time, as the country celebrates 75th anniversary of India’s independence, to install the idol of Veer Savarkar, who defied British rule through a revolutionary struggle. I hereby request, on behalf of the patriotic public of Udupi, to grant us permission through the city municipality to install a statue of Savarkar and cooperate.”
