Mangaluru, Aug 19: "To end the communal tension in the district, the police department should book the conspirators and plotters responsible for communal disharmony in the society and should send them behind the bars. Once this is done, everything will be normal in the district," said former minister B Ramanath Rai.
Addressing a press meet on Friday, August 19 at the Congress Bhavan here. Rai condemned the act of throwing eggs at the leader of the opposition in Karnataka Legislative Assembly and Congress man Siddaramaiah’s car in Kodagu, Rai said, "Congress is a party of harmony. It never took a path of violence. But, throwing eggs during his visit to the sites of natural disaster in Kodagu is condemnable. He is a former chief minister and holds a good position in the society," Rai said.
He also said that in the district, the unscrupulous acts of the communal organizations had reached the highest peak.
"Communal tension and polarisation are being created by the communal organisations. In the district, in several incidents of communal murders the BJP and SDPI workers are involved. There are several instances. For example, in the murder of Harish Poojary and Vinayaka Baliga, BJP workers are involved. The conspirators and the plotters of communal tension are using the youth of the backward communities. But such plotters are safe," he said.
He also said that people who vote for these parties will have to face the curse of innocents who lost their lives and their families. "How far is it right to vote for these parties which polarise society? Few people want violence because they want to profit from it. They are not concerned about the common people. The prices of daily essential commodities are skyrocketing. To divert attention from these things, communal polarisation is being done in the society," Rai alleged.
District Congress Committee President Harish Kumar said, "Leader of Opposition in Karnataka Legislative Assembly is like a shadow of the chief minister. In a democracy, everyone has the right to protest. But, protesting through violence is not a good sign in democracy. The government should take stringent action against miscreants and BJP should apologize for such acts."
MLC Manjunath Bhandary also condemned the act of throwing eggs at Congress leader Siddaramaiah’s car in Kodagu.
He also said that the BJP is frustrated that they are losing base in the state. They are sure that they will not get the majority in the elections. So, such communal tensions are taking place during the time of elections, he added.
"Law is equal for everyone. When the government gives compensation, it should be given equally to all three victims who lost their lives in communal violence," he added.
Congress leaders Ibrahim Kodijal, Shalet Pinto, Shashidar Hegde and others were present.
