Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Aug 20: The MCC (Mangaluru City Corporation) has formed a plan to develop Maryhill junction on airport road. Tenders are already called for the project and approval is taken from the corporation council.

The project is worth Rs 1.40 crore. Maryhill junction will get a new look after many years. Under the Mahatma Gandhi Vikas project, inner road work is already in progress. Concretization of roads will be undertaken soon.

In the later part, an interlock, bus bay, footpath and drain for rain water will be built. The main road which is four-lane now will be converted into a six-lane. The circle will also be made in a scientific manner. There will be minor changes in the vehicular traffic also after the development work is over.

Works related to the project have already begun. Survey work, as part of development, is already completed. After constructing alignments the actual work will begin. In the midst of this, the Ganesha procession of Padavinangady will pass through the same route, so care should be taken not to obstruct the same. Shifting work of electricity and other poles will be done first according to local corporator Sangeetha Nayak.

Public says that developing Maryhill junction, which has many multi-story buildings, school, college, temple, shopping complex, petrol pump, residential complexes will invite more investment in this area. In addition, the Helipad also should be accessed through this route only. All in all, Maryhill junction will be a new landmark sought after by the public in the coming days.

Good move, but will the work carried out be really scientific is a big question mark??? The water pipeline work already done on the inner road leading to IGP bungalow is really a mess. Good road is cut, damaged and not repaired yet. So many potholes, so difficult for the pedestals and little children of the nearby school to walk and go to the school. If City corporation pays attention to these finer things, well and good. But, if they wait for their pockets to fill, then Devare Gathi. Maryhill junction will be another add on to State Bank junction!!! done so scientifically!

Good development works taken up the authorities must be appreciated. This will definitely help improve this part of Mangalore. It is easy to lay back on arm chair and criticise everything. What we as citizens must be alert is against any corruption or irregularities in these works done.

It's doing fine for now, will be ruined and made inaccessible for months together during which accidents will become a normal thing. Development should only be taken up if it's going to make things better, not cos big tenders invite big commissions. Wait and watch how this stretch gets ruined and becomes a pain in the rear.
