Udupi: Man duped of Rs 93,804 on pretext of KYC update

Udupi, Aug 22: A man who clicked the link of a message sent from an unknown person lost a huge amount from his account.

Subramanya Krishna Naika, a resident of Parkala, received a message on his mobile phone to update KYC. He thought that this message is sent by the bank itself and opened the link and updated the OTP. An amount of Rs 12,803 got debited immediately from his SBI bank account held at Eshwarnagar, Manipal branch. In addition, several other withdrawals happened and he lost Rs 93,804 in total.

A case in this connection is filed by Naika in city CEN police station.

    Another big scam is digital loan apps which provide instant loans of small amouns without any documentation, and later extract lacs of rupees from the victims by harassing them in various ways after obtaining access to their personal data; many people have committed suicide by falling prey to these loan apps; there are about 600 such apps floating around as per a report in the Deccan Herald! People have to be very cautious of not falling prey to such juicy loan apps!!

    Per newsreports railways are going to sell IRCTC data to private agencies and garner ₹1000 crores, which is a very dangerous issue for the personal data of an individual falling into wrong hands and getting misused??

    This is a dangerous fraud happening around and many innocent people are victim of this fraud. This is the byproduct of digitalization. Though digitalization is required, there should be a serious system to avoid frauds. How people gets excess to our mobile numbers, bank names etc., is serious concern. I still remember, few years back, our former MLA loosing funds in such fraud. our Who is selling data? Even when a student completes his/her 10th std, various institutions send mails, sms and even get calls to the portents. Who is selling ethics and conscious?

    Andrew mangalore ,question is how people get our telefon numbers and other datas?Simple ,We apply here and there ,give our telefon number sself to telecom or Post ,daily news papers.sometimes we answer some quiz .Naturally with our names .They sell this to other management who pay a huge amount for it,like Y tube or other connections.we do online buy like amazon ,or other .So who profits from them ?we buy clothes from online.So it is a round table .Be careful to share your datei.

    Once caught these online fraudsters must be put behind with rigorous labor for minimum 10 years.... Then we may see a reduction in such crimes... Whatever education given to public there will be few gullible victims... Sad thing to happen to anyone...
