Udupi, Aug 22: Members of the Hindu Mahasabha and Bajrang Dal have called for the installation of a statue of Vinayak Damodar Savarkar at Brahmagiri circle, Ajjarkad limits in the city.
A request for permission to erect the statue was submitted on behalf of patriotic people by the two organisations to the president of Udupi Municipal Council to inform the public about the importance of Savarkar in the freedom struggle.
"Savarkar had fought against the British as a revolutionary campaigner,” they said.
Pramod Uchil, district president, Hindu Mahasabha Dakshina Kannada district, Udaya Poojary, president, Bajrang Dal, Ramakrishna Shetty, Yogish Kutpady, Shailesh Devadiga and others were present.
