Haryana BJP leader, actress Sonali Phogat dies of heart attack in Goa

Chandigarh, Aug 23: Sonali Phogat, Haryana BJP leader and well known actress died of a heart attack in Goa at the age of 42.

BJP state president Om Prakash Dhankar expressing grief on her death said, “I have learnt about the sad demise of Sonali Phogat. It is really sad news”.

The party’s district president in Hisar, Capt Bhupender, added, “She was with some of her associates in Goa. We heard about an hour ago that she suffered a cardiac-arrest and passed away in the wee hours. Certain formalities are being completed there at Goa, after which her body shall be brought to Haryana”.

Phogat had contested the 2019 Haryana Assembly polls from the Adampur seat against Kuldeep Bishnoi, who recently switched over from the Congress party to the BJP. However, she lost to Bishnoi.

She joined BJP in 2008 and went on to become the national vice president of BJP’s Maliha Morcha and also headed the party’s tribe wing in several states like Haryana, Delhi, and Chandigarh

A popular Tik Tok star, Phogat, also appeared in the 14th season of the popular reality show, Bigg Boss. Her other stints include anchoring for Hisar Doordarshan and an appearance in “The Story of Badmashgarh” directed by Ameet Choudhary. She has also acted in a TV show, “Amma” and a few Haryanvi movies.

The actress was born on September 21, 1979, in Bhuthan, a small village in Hisar. Her father is a farmer. She has three sisters and a brother. She studied at an institute located in Noida, Sector 1.
