'Pained' to Learn that PM Did not vote, Says Modi

Gandhinagar, Apr 14 (PTI) Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi today took a swipe at Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for not voting in the recently concluded Assam Assembly elections.

"Today, when we are celebrating the birth anniversary of Dr B R Ambedkar, I am pained to learn that the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh did not vote in the Assembly elections in Assam," Modi said, speaking to reporters at a seminar at the Pandit Deen Dayal Petroleum University here.

"Ambedkarji gave us the Constitution, and the Constitution gave us the right to vote. To know that the Prime Minister did not vote in the Assembly polls is a very saddening act, for the people of the country," he said.

"It is even more saddening, on the birth anniversary of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar," Modi said.

It is clear that the focus of Narendra Mody was more on to criticize Prime Minister Man Mohan Sing than to celebrate the birth anniversary of Baba Saheb Ambedkar. Prime minister must have had important pre-commitments before his official visit to Beijing, China and therefore he could not go from New Delhi to Assam for voting. For this why Narendra Mody should get pain? He was not pained when he was responsible for the massacre of over 2000 innocent human beings in the year 2002. Where was his pain while overlooking violent retribution against communities in the complicity of official machinery in slaughtering religious minority in the subversion of criminal justice system to protect those guilty and extra-judicial killings or fake encounters?
Anna Hazare is struggling for the last four days to rectify his statement of praise of Narendra Mody. His main supporters who were there at Jantar Mantar are now divided. The euphoria is slowly dying because of that one statement of Hazare. Now he says that he only praised rural development in Gujarat. What kind of development? As per the National Sample Survey (NSS) report the average salary of a regular worker in Gujarat is Rs. 199 per day whereas in Bihar, one of the ‘BIMARU’ states, an employee earns Rs. 267 per day. Female casual workers in Gujarat are paid Rs. 59 and their male counterparts Rs. 76. And in Gujarat there is no Lokaukta for 7 years graft complaints go unheard. In fact the so called success story is masked by realities of land acquisition, displacement of villagers, loss of livelihood and unemployment.
