Bangalore: Widespread Rain in State Claims Three Lives

Bangalore, Apr 16: Rain continued to soak Karnataka on Friday April 15 too. It claimed the lives of three people across the state.

Two persons, Padmanabh (42), and Manjunath (28), residents of Attibele, who were working in a grape garden in Dyavarahalli in Devanahalli taluk near here, were struck by lightning. They lost their lives on the spot. Another labourer, Gangadhar, who was also in the garden at the time, escaped with injuries. Another person, who had sheltered himself under a tree, was killed, after a big branch of the tree snapped and fell on him.








Heavy rain was experienced in Hassan, Ramanagar, and Mandya districts. Hundreds of trees got uprooted in Channapatna, Magadi, and K R Pet regions of Mandya district. Banana trees were razed to the ground because of wind of high velocity, inflicting heavy losses on agriculturists.

Reports of heavy losses due to rains that lashed Bagalkot on Thursday have also come in. A large number of trees lining the roads were uprooted in Vidyagiri main road.

The meteorological department has said that the rain and wind will continue to batter state for four to five more days. It expects nine to ten cms of rain in certain districts. The districts which will get rains on a daily basis have been identified as Chikmagalur, Udupi, Shimoga, and Kodagu. Districts like Chamarajnagar, Chitradurga, Mysore, Davangere, Bellary, Raichur, Kolar, Tumkur, Bangalore, and Hassan will get rain on April 16, but they will get a respite of two days thereafter, the department predicted. It also said that Kolar is likely to get ten cms of rain on April 20.

Mangalore: A number of places in the coast including the city experienced some rains coupled with strong breeze, thunder, and lightning, late night on Friday April 16. Temperature across the coastal region has come down as a result.
