Mangaluru, Aug 27: For the first time, Comed-K counselling will be held ahead of CET counselling by KEA. This has caused chaos among students who are opting for engineering courses.
Every year CET counselling used to take place before Comed-K. Engineering students had the opportunity of getting a seat through management quota in Comed-K when they did not secure a government seat based on the rank they got. But this time around, the students have to make a Comed-K seat for sure and then appear for CET counselling.

Every year during declaration of CET results 50% of second PU marks and 50% of CET score was considered for CET rank. Though the same method is followed this year also, more than 20000 repeater students were not considered for this method. As they have approached the court, CET counselling is delayed this year.
Giving information on this subject, Ramya S, CEO of KEA said, “Students have approached the court. But the court has said that there are no issues in the matter of CET record verification. Hence, the online process will begin and documents will be verified after August 16. Later, counselling will be done.”
The Comed-K seat distribution time table is already published. From August 18 document verification will be done and the first phase of seat allotment will start from August 26. On the same day around 1 pm students who do not opt for first phase seats should return their seats. However, CET document verification will take at least a month.
In CET the fee will be around Rs one lac while in Comed-K it will be just double. There is no clarification whether the student will get the fee refund if he opts for Comed-K seat and later changes to CET if he gets a good college. Accusations are heard that KEA and the government are creating an environment where toppers who get low fee seats in CET are made to pay high fees through Comed-K.
