Mangaluru, Aug 29: Certain parts of the district witnessed heavy rains on Saturday night and during day time on Sunday. Artificial flood occurred in several areas.
According to the weather forecast of IMD, yellow alert is declared for three days from August 29. Possibility of heavy rains and violent waves in the sea are predicted.
Due to sudden and heavy rains on the night of Saturday, Kottara Chowki area of the city got inundated. Locals could not sleep whole night. Many took shelter on their terraces.
In the first week of August also Kottara Chowki area was flooded. Household durables like TV, refrigerator, cupboard and other electronic goods got damaged. Shops at Kottara Chowki also got inundated due to rain.
In Marakada, a new layout is being made. Without permission, truckloads of mud is poured on the site completely closing the drains due to which a house collapsed. Due to the heavy sound of collapse, inmates of the house ran outside and escaped from tragedy. Deputy tahsildar inspected the spot and warned to take action against the offenders.
In Sullia where sunshine was there during daytime, heavy rains lashed suddenly in the evening. Minor bridge got inundated as the rivulet near Kollamogru market started overflowing. Road traffic affected for some time. Water entered inside market area also
Sullia city, Arantodu, Sampaje, Kallugundi, Jalsoor, Ivarnadu, Bellare, Kalmadka, Panja, Guthigaru, Subramanya and Harihara Pallathadka also received good amount of rain.
Due to heavy downpour at Panja vicinity on the night of Saturday, water from Bolmale rivulet flowed onto the road that connects Panja and Subrahmanya. Traffic on state highway was affected for some time.
