Why Target Politicians? - Digvijay Asks Activists

Indore, Apr 16 (IANS): Hitting out at civil rights activists, Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh Saturday said they had spent Rs.50 lakh on their campaign for a tough anti-corruption law, and wondered why they were targeting politicians for spending on elections.

"If people representing the civil society can spend Rs.50 lakh, then why are they targeting us politicians?," Singh told reporters here.

"Why are we asked to fight Vidhan Sabha or Lok Sabha elections on a shoe string budget of Rs.16 lakh? The fact of the matter is that the civil society is not answerable to anybody," said Singh.

"Moreover, are we not a part of the civil society? Are politicians uncivil?" Singh asked.

Civil rights activists under the umbrella of India Against Corruption Thursday said they had received donations of Rs.82,87,668 and had spent Rs.50,17,768 on the entire campaign that culminated in social reformer Anna Hazare going on a 97-hour fast for a tougher Lokpal Bill.

Singh had earlier slammed senior advocate and co-chair of the drafting committee of the Lokpal Bill Shanti Bhushan and his son Prashant Bhushan, who is also a member of the committee.

He had questioned the inclusion of the father-son duo in the anti-graft panel, alleging they had evaded stamp duty to the tune of Rs.1.33 crore payable on a property in Allahabad.

Prashant Bhushan has denied the allegation. He has also said that a "smear campaign" has been launched against the activists and he was planning to sue the Congress leader for his allegations.

Mr Digvijaya Singh,it is very difficult to swim against current and your outburst has no buyers.Politicians are main mastermind in most of the corruption cases hand in glove with officials. It is your own irresponsible statement rather than Congress party's.

Whenever Cong.(I) cant answer or clarify some situations, they let loose Mr. DIGVIJAY SINGH to open his foul mouth. First of all we should tell Digvijay that he doesnt have a basic quality to question Mr. ANNA HAZARE. The guy who has lied to the whole nation that Mr.Hemant Karkare (the late ATS cheif) had called him in his last moment. I would like to request to Mr. Digvijay Singh that please give chance to MR. ANNA HAZARE so that he can atleast minimise the widespread curruption, Nexus between babu's and builders, Nexus between Babu's and politians and Nexus between Babu's, builders, polititians and gangsters. The best example is being Mr. Sharad Pawar and Digvijay Singh himself.

    Why Not?

It is politicians who are the leaders. They need to show the way. Why are they worried? Are they untouchables?

The activists are targetting the curruption and the loss to the exchequer.

It is the politicians who handle the government's money. Let them come clean and then the rest of the country will follow.

Why do the politicians distribute money and liquor during the elections?

Digvijay Singh has no moral right to represent & call himself a representative of the people, he has lost his credibility & doesnt qualify for commenting on civil activists, ofcourse its because of corrupt people like him the Lok Janpal is formed , hence he has to shut his mouth till the draft is complete.

Mr. digvijay singh is half correct and half false.
To fight electrons they have to spend enormous money.
Politicians are luring the voters to get elected by hook or crook.
To run the party requires money from where they bring this much amount.
CITIZENS ARE ALSO RESPONSIBLE FOR TAKING CORRUPTION.
Therefore, there should have election reforms enforced strictly without party line, religion, caste, creed and color
