Mangaluru, Aug 30: The colleges that are affiliated to Mangalore university are in dilemma as classes for the newly admitted NEP students is going to begin at the same time, when preparations are on for degree examinations.
The university had asked the colleges to start the colleges on August 17. However, it was postponed to September 1, as the activities of 2021-22 academic year were not complete.
Various examinations, including sixth semester and other degree classes will begin from first week of September. This will be followed by evaluation of answer papers. Amidst this, starting new classes is a challenge.
During evaluation, lecturers and classrooms are needed. Exams will continue till October 3. Till then, shortage of lecturers and classrooms hamper the lessons of newly joined students.
Some opine that the colleges should go for online classes for new students till the examinations are over. There is a possibility that the university authorities will write a letter to higher education department in this regard.
At the same time, some lecturers opine that postponing of new academic year is detrimental for the future of students. Examination and results will get delayed if the academic year begins late. Even scholarships will not be distributed to students on time. Hence, if the college authorities hold classes with a cooperative mind, it would be better.
