Don't Hype Voter Turnout, Omar tells Media

Jammu, April 17 (IANS) Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah asked the media not to hype the issue of the high voter turnout in the state's panchayat polls, as the second round of the 16-phase elections got underway Sunday.

"Will the media now please leave us to have our panchayat elections without crowing about the turnout. We can do without the attention," Omar posted on microblogging site Twitter.

His tweet came after the media reports said that the more than 80 percent voter turnout during the first phase of elections April 13 amounted to separatists having been "shown the door" by the people.

But some people disagreed with Omar.

"You mean Kashmir is special and should not stand media scrutiny?" one user posted.
