Udupi, Sep 1: With a mission to curb excessive drug usage in the district, the district police have intensified action against incidents of the same. In the past 15 days, more than 40 cases have been registered of drug consumption in the district.
Hakay Akshay Machindra, the police superintendent of the district, on the very first day of taking charge, had asserted a mission against drugs. He said, “The state and district police are giving utmost importance to curb drug mafia. The funds generated through drug mafia are being used for illegal activities,” and had also raised concerns over youths becoming prey to drug usage.

Meanwhile, police have intensified the search and cases are being registered against ganja consumption every day. In the past 15 days a total of 54 cases have been registered by the police under various station limits.
Speaking to daijiworld.com, S T Siddalingappa, additional superintendent of police said, “In the past 15 days, 54 cases have been registered against incidents of drug consumption. All the persons involved in this belong to the age group of 20-30 years. This action against drug usage will continue in the coming days also.”
Highest number of cases have been registered in Kundapur sub division limits comprising Gangolli, Byndoor and few other stations.
Meanwhile, there is a need to track and curb the drug transportation chain also. Drug consumption cases are termed as petty cases and persons involved in such cases can easily escape by paying fines in courts. Only drug transportation cases can attract arrest of the accused involved. Police are intensifying their work on this as well.
