Mangaluru, Sep 2: Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi dedicated and laid the foundation stone for 8 projects worth Rs 3,800 crore here on Friday September 2.
PM Modi inaugurated the mechanization of berth number 14 for handling containers and cargo project (Rs 281 crore), BS VI upgradation project (Rs 1,829 crore), and Sea water desalination plant (Rs 677 crore). He also laid the foundation stone for the construction of integrated LPG and bulk liquid POL facility at NMPT (estimated cost Rs 500 crore), construction of storage tanks and edible oil refinery at NMPT (Rs 100 crore), construction of bitumen storage tank farms at NMPT (Rs 100 crore) and construction of bitumen, and edible oil storage tanks and allied facilities at NMPT (Rs 100 crore). In addition, he performed the Bhoomi Pooja for the development of fishing harbour at Kulai (Rs 196.51 crore) on EPC mode.
PM Modi symbolically handed over Kisan credit cards to three beneficiaries. Beneficiaries of deep sea fishing vessel were also handed over the help.
In the public function organized at Goldfinch City ground in Kulur, he said, “The double engine government in the centre and state are working relentlessly day and night to live up to the expectations of the public and to fulfill their demands.
"Today is a great day for the sea power of India. The projects that are inaugurated today have injected more strength for development of Karnataka. The capacity of Indian ports is doubled.
“I have carried out inauguration and foundation stone laying for various projects in order to develop the fishermen community. Due to these projects, business, employment and entrepreneurship is strengthened further. There will be increase in exports. In the past eight years, the country has given more priority to infrastructure development. Karnataka has benefitted immensely from this scheme. It is one of the main beneficiaries of Sagarmala project.
“Work is being done with regards to developing infrastructure from the past eight years. The country has made the development of ports as the important mantra of development. Due to these efforts, in only eight years, the capacity of Indian ports is doubled. State-of-the-art technology is implemented in the port of Mangaluru. Due to these projects, business and employment will be generated.
“In the Pancha Pranas I spoke from the Red Fort on our Independence Day this year, first is the creating of developed India. It is very important to expand the production sector in order to build a developed India. It is necessary to give stress on Make in India products,” he said.
Chief minister Basavaraj Bommai said, “Development has to be done in four directions. In order to increase port handling capacity, Rs 3,800 crore project are launched. Everyone questions about the work by our double engine government. Due to the double engine government, under Sagarmala, 18 projects have been completed and 14 projects worth Rs 950 crore are undertaken for the development of the coastal belt under PM Modi. The double engine government is not only leading the state, but the entire country.
Earlier, New Mangalore Port Authority officials explained the 3D models of NMPA projects to the PM.
Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot, chief minister Basavaraj Bommai, union Parliamentary Affairs and Coal minister Prahlad Joshi, former chief minister B S Yediyurappa, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, MLAs Vedavyas Kamath, Dr Bharath Y Shetty, Sanjeev Matandoor, Harish Poonja and Rajesh Naik, ministers S Angara and Kota Srinivas Poojary, district in-charge minister V Sunil Kumar, mayor Premananda Shetty and others were present.
