Udupi, Sep 3: Ganeshotsava festivities in Udupi have been a stage for showcasing communal harmony among communities in the city. Begun on August 31, Ganeshotsava celebrations are still underway in many places.
Many Hindu devotees are visiting the pandals and are taking darshan of Lord Ganesha. Amidst all these celebrations and festive mood Ganesh Chaturthi has also been a bridge for communal harmony. Instances of visit to Ganeshotsava pandals by Christian brethren and distributing sweets and juice for the participants during Ganesha idol immersion procession have been reported in Udupi.

Catholic Sabha St Francis Xavier church Udyavar unit, and Souhardha Samithi Udyavar distributed sweets and cold drinks for the people who took part in Ganesha idol immersion procession organized by Udyavar sarvajanika Ganeshotsava samithi. Earlier, Fr Stany B Lobo, Parish priest Udyavar and Udupi diocese chancellor along with parishioners had visited the Ganeshotsava pandal in Udyavar area.
Alwyn Andrade, President Catholic Sabha Udyavar Wilfred D’Souza, president souhardha samithi Terence Pereira, Franky Cardoza, Steevan Colaco, Ronald D’Souza, Riyaz Palli, and others were present during the event.
In another incident, Thawakkal youngmen Association of Sarkarigudde in Katpady also distributed sweets and cold drinks during immersion procession of Ganesha idol of Kurkal village. Thawakkal youngmen is a group of likeminded youths of Muslim community of the area. Association members distributed sweets and cold drinks to more than 500 participants.
Speaking with daijiworld.com Asif, President Thawakkal Youngmen association said, “This is the second year we are distributing sweets and cold drinks for the participants. Earlier in 2018 also we had did the same. With a view of living harmoniously with other communities these gestures help. Even the Hindu brothers also provide us sweets during our festivals.”
Majid, vice president Thawakkal youngmen association, Imthiyaz, treasurer Abdul Satar, honorary President Rafiq, secretary Iman Saheb, Anwar Saheb Prabhakar Acharya, Pushparaj, Kishore and others were present.
