Mangalore: Shakuntala Shetty, BJP Former MLA to Join JDS?

Mangalore, Apr 18: Former leader of BJP Shakuntala Shetty after three years of political sanyas, is learnt to be taking a clear political decision soon and all likely to join JDS.

Both Congress and JDS leaders have been inviting Shakuntala Shetty, once MLA of Puttur to their party since many years. But it is learnt that JDS has influenced her to greater extent in recent days, though it is not clear as to which party she will join. It is rumoured that H D Kumarswamy have been holding meetings on regular interval.

Sources from JDS said that higher post is awaiting for Shakuntala Shetty in the party. It is said that Kumarswamy has already announced her candidature as MLC for 2012 election.

But Shakuntala Shetty says Urimajalu Ram Bhat of Swabhimani Vedike is her ‘guide. “I cannot announce my decision without consulting him and the members of Swabhimani Vedike. But in near future I will take a clear-cut decision," she adds.

Considering the present scenario, possibilities of Shakuntala Shetty joining JDS is more. Her decision will also be influenced by political conditions in Dakshina Kannada district. Further, it is said that she is fearful of joining Congress as her political career may be ruined due to groupism in the party.

    Shakuntala Shetty was replaced by Mallika Prasad becasue the RSS king maker Prabakar Bhat was not happy with Shaku akka.So BJP is nothing but a party of few powerful people who play dirty politics to match thier ego.it will make a big difference for BJP if she is joining JDS or congress.we should not forget that she got a good number of votes being independant candidate against Bondala and Mallika Prasad.

    Undivided South Kanara has the tendency of following national parties with strong base. There is no place for other political parties. I never saw a rebel or independent candidate winning here(except Jayaprakash Hegde who later lost the faith). 5000 votes taken by Rama Bhat in the last Lok Sabha election is best example for this.
    At present most of the Congress leaders are ex-JDS. This shows how JDS treats it's partymen who are not from Deve Gowda family. Now JDS is just a garbage box.

    u r right on ur words,In congress party Groupism does not limit to "own people".Congress senior party leaders play back door games within themselves, whenever election nears up.They even cheer up by the lose of party members. How can v predict congress will succeed in next election.

    Shahnawaz,you are perfectly right,all politicians are like butterflies. If anybody is serious about public service why can't they do it independently,why they need a party at all?

    Yes, I agree with view of Shakuntala Shetty being her denial to Join Congress due to Groupism. In the Congress so called National party, Groupism is main issue today. All the leaders have their own people to whom they used for their self motives. None of the leaders in congress work unitedly, every leader has his own self motive. If at all Congress intends or want to maintain its existence, the local leaders should sacrifice their selfishness and should be open minded and cooperative.

    BJP of Dakshina Kannada,particularly Sadanada Gowda not treated MRS Sakunthala Shetty as should be.Once up on a time Urimajalu Ram Bhat was all in all in BJP DK if not in Stae but howerver he was sidelined by younger generation captained by S.Gowda.Ram Bhat built BJP in DK and around but failed miserably to hold on it!

    Shakunthala Shetty has good future in Cong rather than JDS under prevailing situation.It is better to her to be in active politics rather in under ground.MADAM ALL THE BEST FOR YOUR FUTURE ENDEAVOR.
