Udupi: Hanumajjayanti Celebrated with Devotion, Fanfare

Udupi, Apr 19: The fifth annual Hanumajjayanti celebrations, being held annually on the birth anniversary of Lord Hanuman, were held by Sri Krishna Mukhyaprana Seva Samiti, under the aegis of Paryaya Shirur Mutt at Srikrishna Mutt on Monday April 18.

After Sri Lakshmivarateertha Swamiji of Shirur Mutt inaugurated the celebrations in the morning, festivities continued till night without any break. Office bearers of the above Samiti, like Bhuvanendra Kediyoor, Dr G Shankar, Eshwar Chitpady, Hariyappa Kotian, K Bhaskar Salian Mumbai, Heriyanna Kediyoor, Manohar Shetty among others, actively participated in the programmes.












Groups of men and women chanted Bhajans since dawn till dusk. In the morning, oblations to appease Lord Hanuman were held. Community feast had been arranged for thousands of people in the afternoon. Special flower decorations in Srikrishna Mutt, continuous playing of Chende by 108 artistes under the leadership of Sri Mahalingeshwara Chende Troupe, and tribal dance, were the special attractions.

Sri Lakshmiavarateertha Swamiji inaugurated variety cultural programmes held in the evening. District and sessions judge, Narendra Kumar Gunaki, presiding officer of the district fast track court, S L Patil, entrepreneur, Tonse Jayakrishna Shetty, and Lokesh Putran from Dubai, participated as guests in the inaugural. Four different stages had been erected on Car Street. Bhajans by Iskcon team, Mandolin music by Prasannakumar and troupe, devotional music by Padigar Lakshminarayana Upadhyaya and troupe, and flute recital by Murali and troupe, were held on these stages.

At night, eight decorated chariots were pulled. Chende, variety of Nagaswaram, Teppotsava, and grand show of fire crackers provided entertainment to a large gathering.
