Goof up by Mangalore University in question paper, BBA exam postponed

Mangaluru, Sep 6: Of late, Mangalore University is in news for all the wrong reasons. In one more serious mess up Kannada subject examination of second semester BBA was postponed as they were given question paper of first semester.

The examinations of the university began on September 5. The college administrative committee said that the re-examination date will be announced soon.

BBA second semester examination was slated to be held on September 5 in 34 colleges that are affiliated to Mangalore University. In the question paper for Kannada subject that were given to the candidates it was written as second semester. However, as the students started reading the question paper, they came to know that the questions were pertaining to the first semester. The examination centres immediately brought the goof up to the concerned officers of the university.

Prof P L Dharma registrar of evaluation called off the examination within half an hour after the exam began. The university served notice to the chief of examinations division who was responsible for supplying the question papers to the colleges.

    KarNataka universities are infamous for such blunders:: "Bangalore University, which is not new to controversies, landed in fresh trouble on Monday owing to a blunder in the evaluation of B.Com answer scripts. Reflecting poorly on the quality of evaluation of students’ answer scripts, the university went overboard and awarded more marks than what was set by the examiners. Several third semester B.Com students were shocked to see their results which were out recently. Sources revealed to DH that the examination for ‘Tourism Agency’ — one of the subjects — was conducted only for a total of 70 marks. “But students ended up scoring more than 70. How on earth is that possible? It speaks a lot for the quality of evaluation,” said a source in the university. A student who scored “excess” marks said, “I scored 74 marks. I was shocked. Many of my friends in other colleges got 71, 73, 89 and more.”

    See how St. Aloysius College and St. Agnes College conduct their exams on time and without a hitch. This is what happens to a university who is controlled by outsiders and by the 40 % gang. Mangalore university used to have such a good reputation when Mr. Chikkappa Rai was registrar . Now worthless. Its time the autonomous colleges are allowed to grant their own degrees.

    Mangalore University has become lazy. Goof ups are nothing new, include the delays in examination and correction of papers.

    Rudy sir...true. I agree with Shriman Francis about his views expressed here. Autonomous colleges have done with their semesters by third week of July. I heard even the results are out. New academic year already begun for the next semesters. Some got job and some marching towards for higher education. Now, because of the delays in those university colleges, its difficult for the PG classes to begin. Pg colleges have to wait for the students for these colleges who did not finish their exams yet....Wait for the results. Its already September. Now, tell me who is more stupid ? Those who have finished exams or those who yet to finish their exams ? Afterall, former students have to wait for the pg to begin...

    This is all because of the reservation quota of jobs in the university. Can imagine the type of people employed in the university. Anything can happen after 2014 we got to keep our fingers crossed.

    Mangalore university was top rank when it was started and in following years it started declining. The political interference and political appointments spoiled this university. Autonomous colleges have overtaken the university now. Autonomous colleges have completed their academic year in time and started the new academic year. Whereas the university is still struggling to conduct the previous year's exams. The students have to hang around for another year at home after completing exams either for a job or for PG studies.
