Udupi. Sep 6: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) and district Disaster Management Authority have announced a red alert on Wednesday, September 7 in Udupi in view of the heavy rainfall forecast in the region.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has announced alert for the next five days since there is likelihood of extremely heavy downpour across Coastal Karnataka.
The IMD has also sounded an orange alert on September 8 and 9.
The Disaster Management Authority led by the deputy commissioner Kurma Rao instructed the department officials concerned to be prepared to face the situation. District/taluk officials, nodal officers, Disaster Management Committee members should be present at their centers in order to manage the situation, he directed.
The fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea by the district administration.
General public including children have been cautioned not to touch dangerous electric poles or take shelter under trees or buildings citing danger. If any families are living in the low lying areas, they should be shifted to safe places, DC has ordered.
